I usually don’t post reviews, especially bad ones, but this experience was bellow my expectations, especially that this was my first afternoon tea and I was looking forward to having a nice time. Firstly, when me and my boyfriend arrived, the host put us next to a table of 10 (really loud) girls, that immediately ruined the whole atmosphere that the beautiful location has. In my opinion they shouldn’t have given the tables next to them to any other customers, but because the restaurant was almost full already we decided to stay there. Our biggest disappointment was the food.. I ordered the traditional one and my boyfriend had the savoury one. My sandwiches were alright, but his savouries were awful, he couldn’t even eat the croquette and he had to spit it out.. The scones were dry and the desserts were just ok, nothing special for that price. The staff didn’t come to check on us and we could see they were unprepared. The location is beautiful but the food and service were definitely not what I expected them to be. Won’t be...
Read moreI was really looking forward to afternoon tea at Tales of Tea in St. Mary’s Guildhall, but honestly, it was a letdown. For £29.50 per person (plus service charge), I expected way more.
First off, the tea and coffee situation is dire—you get a pot of hot water with a tea bag or a pot of filter coffee, and that’s it. You only get one choice.
The food was super underwhelming. Sandwiches were bland, scones were cold, and the desserts were so sweet I couldn’t even finish mine. It's definitely not worth the price.
Service was pretty much nonexistent—you have to pay at the counter, and staff barely checked in. Plus, they don’t take Amex, which was annoying.
The toilets are in another building, so if it’s raining or cold, you’ll have to head outside. Oh, and there’s no WiFi or signal, so forget about using your phone.
The only good thing? The venue itself is beautiful, but that’s about it. Overall, it’s a very average afternoon tea with a fancy price tag....

Came here as a family saw good reviews especially as my husband has Coeliac disease so eats a Gluten Free diet. To start with there was no child menu offered for my younger daughter, then we had to wait ages to order food as two other families came in after us and were served before us, we told the waitress my husband needed gluten free, when our food arrived we asked if my husbands was gluten free ( he had sausage on a baguette) and the chef said not the bread today!! we explained he has coeliac disease and he did change it immediately as he hadn't known it should have been a gluten free meal, I feel the waitress needs informing about food allergies and addressing this with the kitchen, altogether not a great experience and probably won't be going back. ...
