Out for a walk in Sidmouth on a Sunday afternoon in January, went to look for a coffee and cake with my wife and two dogs. The Jar Bakery was well placed near short stay parking and had a prominent ‘dog friendly’ sticker on the door,so good first impression. Cake selection was limited but there was a variety of different flapjacks on display. Coffee options also ok. I had a chai latte and my wife tea. All good as was the Eccles cake and yogurt flapjack. Staff were pleasant and there was plenty of seating. All in all good for a seaside cafe, just not outstanding.

Was initially reserved about cafe as looked like a tatty canteen. The tables were old and tatty and there was stock piled up in the back dining room. however, the breakfast was delicious. Well cooked. Good portion size and nice ingredients. Nice coffee. And good service. would definitely pop in again if we were in the area .

Decided to take the extra charges and eat in. The atrocious service kept me waiting 45 minutes for a cornish pasty! I only had 2 hours on the car, so I felt like I had to rush. Shame too, because the pasty was actually quite nice. I wouldn't recommend the sit in at all

Pot of Tea was nice, but the atmosphere not so much. The place was dead, no radio or TV in the background, felt like a waiting room. There’s just no personality, just tables and chairs dumped in a room. The decor was lacking.. it’s a shame because it has so much potential.

The food was cold, and dry after being sat there for such a long time in the display window. I ordered a Cornish pasty for £5 and it tasted EXACTLY like a Ginsters pasty from the local co-op which you can buy for £1 and i am almost certain that’s what it was.

First time here and won’t be returning unfortunately. Overpriced food, taking advantage of the public walking past with their good looking window display, shame the service and quality of food doesn’t feel or look the same when you’re sat down in there.

Probably would recommend decorating the place a bit more so it doesn’t feel so cold and...

Food was alright. Service was absolutely horrendous. Our mugs of tea hadn't arrived by the time we'd nearly finished our meals. I went to the counter to remind them and received no apology, nor any real clear answer as to if they were coming / on their way / delayed. After 10 mins some mugs of tea arrived on the counter and the staff were shouting "3 teas". I guess it was too much bother to bring them over and apologise, even though it wasn't very busy. Collected them and two of the mugs were dirty. Took the worst one back and again received no apology. Finally another one was brought to our table. Heard plenty of other customers complaining about orders being wrong and not arriving. Won't be back. I think the issues were probably caused by all the staff being too young and inexperienced. Shame as it looked nice from...

I have on numerous occasions purchased food to take out and have always been very pleased with the service provided . However today as was with a 92 year old and a 16month old decided to eat in the restaurant area I was disappointed to realise that i had to order food at the counter and join the back of the queue . My main concern was that none of the available tables had been cleared or cleaned which i then proceeded to do. I went to get a high chair both of which has not been cleaned from previous use and therefore unhygienic. I asked a lady for a cloth who carried out a cursory effort to clean it.However the lady who bought the food was very friendly and helpful. I do appreciate that they are busy but expect a standard of hygiene to be...
