Lovely café, with sweet and savory treats of very good quality, perfect for a Sunday afternoon visit. We also got a really warm welcome from the staff - I highly recommend this place if you happen to pass nearby. We took a selection of pasties for takeaway on a hike afterwards and they were all delicious.

Great coffee and cakes, visited on a Sunday and they were open before 9:00 unlike other coffee shops, also closes at 18:00 on a Sunday in summer unlike my usual coffee shop. What I thought was an almond croissant turned to be a cherry and almond croissant, which was very nice…

Fancied a pasty on our way home from holiday, this place was open on a Sunday unlike many others! The pasty was decent, good pastry, nice amount of filling and not too peppery. Would recommend

Went in during the afternoon for the reduced price pasties, which I was told by a younger member of staff would be on earlier in the day. Was met with a senior member of staff, presumably a manager, berating the poor elderly customer in front of me for assuming the end of day sale was on, as it is every other day apart from the day we went there. I understand that the sale is not mandatory, but the rudeness, contempt and level of this man's voice was absolutely out of proportion to the extent of madness. He was actually shouting at a customer over two vegan pasties that, in 20 minutes time, would go in the bin anyway. When I, regarding the whole situation from at the door and second in the line, quip to the others behind me something along the lines of "I don't think the sale is on, actually" the gentleman behind the counter picks up an unseen object from the counter and physically threatens to throw it at me, along with a torrent of yelled abuse and barked instructions along the lines of "GET OUT NOW!!". This made me feel a bit scared, and intimidated, and as a member of the public in a bakery of supposed repute I should not be subject to any form of violent intimidation as I was in this particular establishment. I hope appropriate measures are taken to ensure that this, or any, form of intimidation is never repeated in The Cornish Bakery in Sidmouth.

Despite the tasty pasties, do not come here unless you wish to be verbally assaulted and physically threatened...

Unusually slow and poor service today Only I person behind counter Maybe as just opened again after opening for summer follow extended lock down We decided to eat elsewhere which is unusual as we regularly have a coffee here Hope fully things will pick up next time we are down later in year

Thanks for the reply, re-read my post, there happened to be a lot more staff on duty , at least 4 - 2 in kitchen area and around the store , ignoring the counter, otherwise i would not have commented, also very poor attitude , as i did mention to the poor girl, sorry should have said originally & clearly , otherwise just seems like a moan. I do understand staffing issues currently , but not in this case. But thanks for the reply and we will be down again next year and certainly try the store again them,...

Reason for stars is that the atmosphere plummeted when I went to pay- they would not accept legal tender-CASH.

Service was acceptable but not perfect.

Just a pasty- I’ve had better and just fed up with the since “Covid” excuse for not taking my hard earned currency.

I’m local as in I live in Seaton- this Card Only mentality from retailers need to stop- it’s a travesty. My cash should be welcomed not shunned- Utterly ridiculous.

it’s quite embarrassing as I didn’t have my card-and had to turn to my partner to pay which deafeated the object of me offering to pay.

Last time in this establishment and other unfriendly “Cashless”...
