My family has revisited this restaurant each year for the past 5 years during our holidays in Mablethorpe. But i am sorry to say NEVER again. This year's visit was the worst experience I've ever had in any restaurant. An empty restaurant with only 2 other customers in, one member of staff serving, a small uninteresting menu. Strange decorations and child like cartoon pictures on the wall of Indian girls dancing. No character just mixed matched hints of Indian references. Cutlery that was cheap and unmatched. The corner near the toilets looked like an charity shop with clothing and other items thrown in the corner. The more you looked around the worse it felt. No chance for an Indian draught larger here unless you like more than half a glass of froth. The waitress couldn't pour a larger to save her life. Maybe they thought it was an ice cream shop. But you don't even get a flake. When the waitress couldnt cope with 10 of us the 2 locals stepped in. Turns out the old guy works there he comes in on his days off eats and has to help out. It was clear that they had zero experience working in an Indian restaurant. They were so over friendly the woman decided to sit at our table and talk about her health problems, her housing situation, past employment and the new owners. So embarrassing and unwelcome. When I saw her getting up, limping over to go help behind the bar I couldn't believe what was happening. I thought we were part of a comedy sketch. It was like a community run food Hall. Now let's cover the food. Chicken Tikka masala. Bland with a strong tomato texture. And quite runny. Chicken korma. Tastless Lamb curry. Tough fatty meat in a runny brown sauce almost like a gravy. 3 selections of rice. All dry and bland. Carling larger that tasted and smelt like farts. Stupid charges for pickle trays of shop brought sauces. Wet, flat, tastless nann breads. I could go on and on. The only thing we get that was positive was they put on some very loud Indian music on the TV at the end of the meal via you tube and the kids staying laughing and dancing at it. It was soooo bad and crazy. We left thinking that local people watching us go in must have been laughing and saying look at the tourists going in that dump. My wife was quite ill that evening and others in the group were left feeling a little sick. This place needs a massive improvement overall to get our custom ever again regardless of the changes to new management etc recently. AVOID (unless you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWell where should I start.........I have had some bad curries in my time, but just when I thought that there couldn't be any more establishments worse than the very very bad ones I've been to, up pops India Gate in Mablethorpe to take the award for the worst Indian food experience I've ever had, from the moment I had ordered my takeaway I realised that this place looked a bit suspect, but the draw of the "Homemade chips" drew me in I ordered Chiken jalfezi, mushroom rice, garlic naan, chicken Biryani and of course a portion of the delicious sounding "homemade chips" first off they had no money to give me any change! On the drive home I did have my reservations of what the food would be like, there was not the normal aroma you would expect from a bag full of Indian curry dishes..... On getting home and dishing up the meals the first thing was that instead of mushroom rice I had been given boiled rice, I thought ok, I can live with that as the curry will infuse and turn what I find a plain boring type of rice into something a bit more tasty........how very wrong! I have never in my life been sold a curry so so so very bland it might as well have been called boiled chicken in boiled water with a few bits of over boiled onion and red pepper, the curry separated and flooded the rice with thin watery tasteless liquid, there is more flavour in a glass of tap water! Biryani was the same tastless and watery sauce. Garlic naan was of similar type as those dance long life ones you can get in supermarkets but with no garlic taste! I know what your thinking..........but the homemade chips surly saved the day............well if frozen French fries of the type you get in a kebab shop but that haven't eleven been cooked through is what they class as being homemade than it goes to show the chefs are deluded as much as their delusion that they can even remotely cook a curry to a very basic standard. Congratulations India Gate for being the very worst Indian meal I have ever had and you can hold your heads up high safe in the knowledge that your accolade will stand forever as there is no way on earth that anyone could do a worse job of cooking a meal as your establishment. So to anyone who is thinking of going to this place, save yourself a lot of hard earned cash and just buy some bottled water for the same taste experience......don't say I didn't warn you! If I could have given zero stars it would have been a more...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSmells amazing from next door.. Took 1hr 45 to arrive after 3 phone calls.
Onion bhaji was dry, and a bit powdery, like it was under cooked. Salad was almost non-existent.. a slice of carrot!?!? And a midgets finger full of some green stuff, with a piece of what may have been lettuce yesterday! No pot of sauce to drizzle like every other Indian ever. Chicken Kharhi reads as slow cooked onions, peppers and marinated meat... There was some meat (not marinated) There was a piece of pepper.. just one. And there were a couple of onion pieces. Rather bland and tasteless...
Chicken balti was a sea of oil, and again, bland.
The rice was OK. Naan bread average..
Chips, someone forgot to put the rest of the portion in.. But it's OK.. we had about 8 chips each (3 of us).
It's a seaside Curry.. so I don't expect amazing.. but, being in the pub next door, the smells are amazing.. I just don't know what they were cooking.. as it wasn't anything we had.
I'm just glad we didn't sit in and pay even more for the same disappointment.
Spoke to a friend earlier who ordered and threw theirs away.. gave it then benefit of the doubt...
Shouldn't have!!
