I've been in here three times now and if you haven't experienced it you really ought to. My wife and I and her cousin and husband take us as it's 18 miles to Louth and we don't drive. We park up in a carpark ten minutes away in the town centre. It's a lovely old pub with a lot of history and has the old beams on the ceilings as you walk in. We booked a table for I'o clock and it took us 25 mins to get there. We were welcomed in as a couple of staff know us now. We went to the bar and we were told to sit where we liked there were quite a lot in but we sat in the front. The dinning room is huge and extends down some steps for quite a distance. There's a door to the left down the steps leading to another room and toilets. This room is warm and cozy and has a massive selection of books and puzzles you can buy for charity. Just take your purchase to the bar and give a donation. We got service straight away. We were looking at the menus and were asked by a friendly waitress if we would like to order drinks and she would bring them and then take our orders, which we did. We got our drinks and the wife and I ordered beer battered Grimsby haddock, with chips and garden peas. It also came with bread and butter on the same plate. Our friends ordered scampi with chips and side salad 🥗 and a vegetarian meal with potatoes and salad. Our fish meal was a special with a choice of sweets 😀 thrown in for £11 and a few pence. We all had a free sweet and 3 of us chose bread and butter pudding, home made? The meals were fantastic. Cooked to perfection. The fish was big and fresh and delicious. The other meals we were told were equally as good , large plates and delicious. When we'd eaten our first court I went to look at the books and wares. My wife went through the same room to the smoking 🚬 area out side. We were only back ten minutes when the deserts arrived. I asked if I could take mine home as I was full up. They put it in a plastic box for me. When we finished we paid the bill 💸 and left a tip as everything was perfect. We were told see you again soon we hope. I replied " you certainly will". We left there and went round the out door market. It was open on Fridays. Then around the shops. Some had been there a hundred years plus. We had a coffee and 🍵 in a Witherspoon pub. Then made our way back to the car. It was a 💕 lovely end to a...
Read moreJust come back from new years lunch.. Never been here before but i was very happy..nice and clean , warm and good atmosphere. We had booked and were immediately seated at our reserved table which was nicely situated in a corner out of the way. I noticed that there were only 2 members of staff on running around like things demented bless them. After a while one member of staff ( T J) took our drink orders and apologised for the slow service. We had pre ordered our meals and after another wait our fish pies arrived. They were absolutely scrummy..nice and hot, flavoursome and plentiful. Lots of fish inside and a lovely tasty sauce, served with some of the best roast potatoes ive ever had..light and crispy and soft in the middle. A tureen of veg was served with our meal ( but sadly a tad over cooked for me). Unfortunately the black forest gataux wasnt a proper black forest gataux and was served with a revolting squirty cream ...really a shame as that was the only thing that let it down really. Nice Jack rabbit wine sold here.. Lovely staff thankyou T. J . Will...
Read moreCalled here this afternoon after visiting locally, we needed to find somewhere that could cater for a coeliac and we were pleasantly surprised as this place had their own gf menu! They were quite clued up on allergens which is reassuring as we’ve had lots of disasters in other food establishments. Unfortunately the food me and my partner had was really poor and not worth the money in my opinion. I am also 100% convinced I was served Heinz vegetable soup as their ‘soup of the day’. Really disappointing. The chips with our mains were all still quite hard in the middle so most of us left them. Even the chocolate cake we had for dessert was stale :( and although the staff were pleasant, I didn’t feel like they were attentive so didn’t feel we could approach with our issues regarding the food. The kids enjoyed what they ate but I felt paying £100 for the 4 of us left a bitter taste in my mouth as I’ve had much nicer food for less. Wouldn’t...
