Quite possibly the worst Indian takeway we have ever ordered. Ok, so the food arrived on time and was hot. So far so good. Then we opened the tubs. Firstly, the Raita. This was basically a tub of yoghurt tipped into a plastic container with a few chunks of cucumber thrown in. I could have done it myself. Lazy and poor. Next, onion bhajis: overcooked and virtually inedible. We had a mixed veg side dish which consisted of one quite large chunk of potatoe, which we had to share and a couple of peas. Nothing else. So now for the main dishes. I love balti so ordered Chicken Tikka Balti and hubbie had another chicken dish which I can't remember the name of. Balti should be a taste sensation which is why I love it but not from Bengal Spice. The sauce was just like any normal curry sauce with no flavour whatsoever apart from curry powder and actually, all three dishes - both chicken dishes and the mixed veg had the same sauce on each. It looked as though they had just cooked a batch of sauce the then used it for everything. The whole meal was terrible. Like others have said, the chunks of chicken were enormous. The naan was ok. We paid £40 for this meal which we always halve and keep for another night, but this went straight in the bin. If you were served this in a restaurant you would send it back or refuse to pay. There is an Indian takeaway in Ivybridge called Taste of Bengal and their food is simply to die for. I would rather drive all the way over there and get my next meal. We'd never use Bengal Spice again based on the standard of the food which was delivered to...
Read moreMy family and I ate from here a while ago and were very impressed, tonight however I have to agree with the last reviewer.
The 3 different curries we ordered all had massive (oversized) pieces of chicken in them. This may sound like a small thing but it's very hard to know what your cooking with such large pieces and cutting them up revealed dark meat and grisle and just unpleasant chicken all round. The chips we added were just awful, among the worst chips I've ever had from an Indian, again I agree with the last reviewer that they seemed like they had been kept warm for a very long time and were inedible.
The curries themselves were very average tasting for want of a better description, there was nothing special here, just a very uninspiring Indian experience. The allo gobi we had was virtually tasteless, although the poppadoms were very nice... Go figure, the best thing I can say about it was the poppadoms.
Very disappointed, won't order...
Read moreAvoid at all costs. Ordered £70+ worth of food at 7.15pm, that took 2 hours to be delivered. Then for us to be missing parts of our order, which then my dad could not eat because he didn't have his rice. I ate a small amount of my food, then for me to no longer be hungry. We call the takeaway about the missing items, they said they would get someone out to us straight away. 30 minutes later still no food, they had delivered it to the wrong address. Called again and told we had to talk to foodhub to get it sorted. After going backwards and forwards with them, they said we could have a refund for the missing items. But no compensation was offered for all of this and after asking for compensation, they said there was none to give. Absolutely disgusted service from both Bengal spice and food hub. The biggest shame is that the food was nice, but they have lost a house of customers and and future...
