Had this as a take out, I am a regular Indian eater this has to be my favourite thing to eat, however ibwas very disappointed with the food we ordered, we ordered x2 Curry's bhuna and a balti, both Curry's looked the same in colour and tasted very similar, meat and sauce so much sauce it was extremely watery, no tomatoes or onion chunks in the bhuna, the flavour was nice but the curry was extremely average (like cheap curry average) has nothing on the Curry's in the midlands and for the price we paid its just not worth it. The lamb was nice very soft and delicious the chicken was a little hard, We also ordered the masasla chips not had them before so I was looking forward to them, again very disappointed all it was, was chips covered with spice, I expected it to be similar to salt and pepper chips, with some onions peppers over it maybe some actual masasla sauce covering it all we got was a hyped up version of chips in a bag from your local supermarket. Food came in the time it said and the food arrived hot and the delivery driver was friendly but we will not be ordering again and to be honest I don't think I would go in to order either as it's been extremely...

Dined here last evening with three associates for the first time.

We are all Torquay based, and we have visited various curry establishments in and around the bay every month for 2 years. Most have produced excellent food, but always a few niggles for the discerning.

We were blown away from the moment we entered, with no reservation, at welcome and attentive service we received even though the restaurant was fairly busy. The menu is clear and simple, but the waiter also spent much time explaining dishes and making recommendations.

We selected, as usual, an assortment of four starters and four main dishes plus accompaniments to share.

The food was amazing, with beautiful flavours and the lamb dish had the most lean and tender pieces of meat that you could wish for. And the presentation is very pleasing to the eye, especially the curry which is served in miniature 'bucket'.

The seating is comfortable, stylish and somewhat unusual. The ambience is excellent.

I am very happy to recommend this restaurant, and will be returning soon with...

Been going to this place for years, even when it was called cilantro. Food and service was always excellent. However we have been twice this year and the service is not good, slow and not welcoming. If the service was a 10 out of 10 when we first visited it is now a 2 out of 10,if I'm feeling generous. Have the duck curry ,please be aware if you had this curry when it was 1st on the menu the coconut favour has gone from strong to non existence, but still tasted ok but if something is suppose to be in a coconut sauce I expect to taste coconut. Also on our last visit no desserts were available apart from ice cream. Told it was because they have had two big parties ,not interested in the parties,we booked and they should of catered for this higher demand. This is our last holiday in Paignton, and therefore our last visit to this restaurant which we are happy about has it sad to see the high ...

If you're looking to experience Indian food that isn't your traditional massala or korma style dish, then this is the place to try it in Paignton. The restaurant serves southern Indian style food, which incorporates (but is not limited to) plenty of seafood or vegetarian options. In the photos are a starter of spiced crusted lamb, and a main of aubergine and peanut curry in a sweet and sour sauce with coconut rice. It's quite easy to see why this restaurant was ranked in The Guardian newspaper's top 50 Indian's in the UK - you will pay slightly more for the experience, but it is certainly worth it.

Having spent half a year travelling around India I am so pleased to find East in the West serving actual authentic tasty Indian food and not just the bastardised "British-Indian" mess found everywhere else. At last a local restaurant recognising some people in the C21st are looking for quality and the real deal! Fully booked when visited but they managed to fit us in, great service, delicious veg options, thick lassi, Kerela paratha, amazing. Only downside was no proper masala chai, only tea bags available. Would love to see a thali also!

A nice setting and well varied menu. Service wasn't the best however. Had to ask a couple of times for drinks and at one stage all the staff were standing behind the bar all texting on their mobiles whilst we were sat trying to get their attention to order. Had the black pepper lamb main course. Wasn't nice at all. Of course due to the description of the dish I expected it to have a prominent black pepper flavour, which I like, however, it tasted like a bucket of black pepper had been dropped into the pan.
