It is unfortunate that i find myself calling out poor behaviour at this establishment. We arrived at 19.35 on Sunday 2nd October, to this tavern and the entrance was roped. After standing alone saying hello for about 2 minutes, a young short dark haired female finally came to the entrance It was like the 3rd degree since she requested about 3 times, despite our confirmation that we would not request food as they were closing at 8pm. During the chat she kept the rope in place intimating a reluctance to welcome us and that it wouldn't be removed until we had satisfactorily passed her interrogation. On entry another couple were asked by Sue, the manager, what food they'd like to order. I asked the availability of a food item and was told there was none left. I asked what was available and we ordered seafood x 2. I then discovered that my partner didn't like sea food so after we were ready to leave I asked for a doggy bag and was told that they didn't have anything. The item was small so i ordered a packet of crisps to contain it but they said unless I had exactly £1.20 they coudnt sell me the crisps as the till was closed and they couldn't process a visa. I suggested that ( having spent over £17 in 20 minutes) they might give the crisps but the request fell on deaf ears. I said we're staying in the accommodation next door and would bring the £1.20 in the morning, upon which they finally released the crisp bag. I've never met such ignorant unfriendly staff and was disgusted with the way they treated us. Ian Dale Harris from...

Read moreOne-Star Review – I would have left zero stars due to a Disappointing Experience at The Black Horse, Whitby
We were really looking forward to visiting The Black Horse during our trip to Whitby, but unfortunately, our experience was incredibly disappointing. We were a group of 12 and, being mindful of the pub’s small size, we split into two groups of six to avoid overwhelming the space or disturbing other customers.
However, the bartender was extremely abrupt and refused to serve us, stating that they don’t serve groups—despite our efforts to be considerate. There was no attempt to be polite or accommodating; we were simply told to leave. The tone was unfriendly and unnecessarily rude.
To make matters worse, there was a very strong, unpleasant smell of what seemed to be dog urine inside the pub. In hindsight, we were glad we didn’t end up staying, as it was far from the warm, welcoming experience we had hoped for.
This kind of attitude and environment was not what we expected, especially in a town known for its hospitality. We won’t be returning, and wouldn’t recommend it to others visiting...
