Booked here under recommendation from a family member, quite late at 8.45pm but that's all they had available when booking. We were seated up on the mezzanine near the top of the stairs which gave us a nice view down into the main restaurant. We had a bottle of red wine which was about the price you'd expect. My wife had the balsamic and oil with bread and I had the garlic mushrooms for starter, the mushrooms were lovely and came with a nice big crust of bread which was lovely to dip in the juice. I chose the lamb for my main, my wife had the seafood linguini. She really enjoyed the linguini and couldn't quite finish the whole dish. My lamb was nice and some of the roasted vegetables that came with it really complimented the lamb, but the aubergine tasted a bit odd due to the mint sauce.

The service was good even though the restaurant was very busy. The atmosphere was generally good but a disappointing situation evolved due to a family being exceptionally loud. The table seated close to them asked for them to try to be a little quieter to which they got the hump, now I could understand that, butit was almost like a shouting competition and other drivers were being affected by this.

After the guy nearest to them paid the bill, two of the members from the family followed him and his partner to the exit and made a scene. Perhaps he should of asked the staff to deal with the noise, but they are young so he Perhaps thought it better to try to be civilised. Shame the family could see that.

Overall, the food is pretty good, the service is good and without the situation the atmosphere would have been good.

I've had better italian food, but it wasn't bad

I wouldn't...

Visited last week..feedback given directly to restaurant but had no response. The food was lovely and the service was too until towards the end of our meal. We booked a table for 7pm and arrived on time. At 8.40pm a lady came over (presuming maybe the manager as we hadn’t seen her before) and said “I don’t mean to kick you out but someone is waiting for your table.” she said “ I managed to spin things round so you could have longer but people are waiting!” We had been there for 1 hour and 40 minutes! My son had just finished his desert and my friend was just finishing her wine. As you can imagine we were quite taken aback with the bluntness of this ladies request for us to move and upon questioning her about it for example how long are you allowed the table surely longer than 1hr 40 minutes we all found her quite challenging/rude and almost looking for an argument. It ruined to be honest what was a lovely meal, the food was amazing but the whole experience tarnished at the end by this one member of staff who should maybe be taught some tactical customer service skills. So on that basis I don’t think we will be...

Came here for an Italian as this place was largely recommended to us. The food is absolutely brilliant! It is a bit pricey however worth the price in my opinion. The service however unfortunately was not great. We felt extremely rushed. Within a minute or 2 of us sitting down they took our drinks order, and before they even arrived no more than a few minutes after that they wanted our food order. We asked for more time and they gave us a minute in which we asked for me and this time they were more patient. Whilst eating our food the wait staff was walking up and down the stairs past the tables. I thought that this was so they could be on hand in case we needed anything. The minute I put my fork down to take a drink they came over to try and take our plates, whilst my partner took our son to the bathroom. I picked my fork back up and they then retreated. It felt like we were being watched and timed to eat our food and unfortunately this dampered our whole experience. One extra positive that we quite liked was that they offered lego boxes to the children who came to help...

We went to the Cosa Nostra for a birthday dinner and our opinions vary - while I would much rather lean towards 3 stars, my friend very clearly gives the food five stars. As a starter I had the garlic prawns which came in a creamy red sauce. The sauce was a bit bitter and rather bland. My friend had the mussels and loved them. The portion was ample. As a main I chose the Penne Arrabiata. The pasta was overcooked, the sauce again rather bland and not spicy at all. I wouldn’t order them again. My companion chose the lamb and was very satisfied with it. The lamb was tender and juicy. As dessert I had a big slice of Tiramisu which was OK, but I’ve certainly had much better. Not worth the £ 7-95. My friend had Amaretto Panna Cotta from the specials board which would have been the much better choice. The wine by the glass (Merlot and Syrah) was mediocre. The service was friendly but varied in quality. The restaurant was extremely noisy. The Cosa Nostra wouldn’t be my first choice in Whitby, but my friend enjoyed our dinner there much more than I did, so it’s four stars altogether.
