Mum and I had decided to spend the day in Whitby some weeks back, as it's one of our favourite places to go for the day. We'd parked up for the day and had a look around a few of the shops and as a few hours passed and it was approaching 12 o'clock, we decided to look for somewhere to have a bit of lunch. Due to my mum having a wheat and gluten intolerance, it can be difficult at times to find places that cater to such dietary requirements. A place we had tried some months back was alright, but wasn't the greatest. We'd happened to stumble upon Sander's Yard Bistro merely by chance, as it was tucked away from the bustling cobbled street. After having a look at the menu by the gate, we thought we'd give it a try. Although it was busy, one of the staff members was more than happy to find us a table and it wasn't long before we'd got one. We were seated on a fab table by the main door, overlooking the wonderfully charming courtyard. A real bonus that the weather kept ever so nice for us too! We had a lovely lady who served us and nothing seemed too much trouble, not to mention there were some great gluten-free options available. So mum ended up ordering the mature cheddar, red onion and tomato on a toasted gluten-free bun and I got the Cumberland sausage sandwich in a warm ciabatta roll and we were really impressed. It was hot, well-presented and very enjoyable, not to mention the fab raspberry milkshake! We'd have liked to try the selection of cakes they had too, but we were full after our bit of lunch. However we shall certainly be back for more without a doubt. Really pleased with the great food, great location in a quiet space and the great staff also! Many thanks to Sander's Yard Bistro! :)

A good place to retreat for lunch in Whitby. One could ask why all my ratings are on the higher side of the scale. It’s because I only rate those places I would go back to or would recommend to others. I also think all good food, friendly service and comfortable surroundings is enough to earn a 4 or 5… May be I should rate lesser experiences but just feel bad leaving 3 stars or below reviews. Sandler Yard is five stars and highly recommended. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Whitby’s retail shops this bistro offers an extensive menu of well prepared and tasty meals. I have to rate my burger a 5/5. The patty was light and airy and the right ratio of fat and minced beef. I really like that the extras provided on the side so that the burger wasn’t overfilled and prone to falling apart from plate to mouth. I know it’s hard to tell from my picture but it really was a great burger. I was assured by my wife that the warm goat and pear salad was equally as good. Nice and spacious dining room. We didn’t try the cakes as we were full, but there were plenty of choices there. Coffee was nice and strong if you are like me and prefer a COFFEE!

Absolutely adore this hidden gem off the busy street outside - it truly is a must if you visit Whitby. The courtyard is stunning and a wonderful place to enjoy their fantastic bottomless brunches or share coffee and cake with friends (so many cakes!). You can always count on the quality of the food and friendliness of the staff - and more credit to them for working hard to comply with the challenges of covid restrictions. Their Croque Monsieur is seriously tasty and I also love the mushroom pate they serve - so much so that I had to ask what it was so I could go and buy some for myself! It's Suma FYI - SO good on hot buttered toast if you do buy some!! Sadly you can't buy it from Sanders (hint hint folks - get some in stock!).....! Cannot wait to go back and eat and drink to my heart's content! This place is a serious vibe and I love it.

This place is in a yard, and when you enter that yard you need to walk pass some tables to enter the restaurant it self. So the garden is completely empty, no waitress in around, only a sign saying wait here to be served. OK. No one around to see us or to serve us... We passed the empty tables and walked to the rest. door. Then a waitress appeared, asked us to go back to that sign and wait there. OK. We asked for table for two, restaurant is almost empty - 9 am in the morning- garden is completely empty, she said only two tables available- one inside one outside. We chose inside on this chilly morning. The room we were sat had 7 more empty tables. We thought they maybe don't want to give bigger tables to the couples. OK. Two more couples came after us, no one told them "there is only two table available" lie. They were given in bigger tables.

So obviously questioning the reason why we were treated this way?! Not sure why! Maybe because of our skin colours, or accents.. All other families/couples were white, middle class, middle aged. But definetelty wouldn't go there ever again. And I wouldn't recommend that to anyone. l didn't eat or drink anything, my parter ordered kippers. No comment on that, as...

We were going to try macey brown for breakfast, however the weather didn't look great and they're only outdoor friendly for dogs, so sanders yard bistro came up as one of the next best options! Have to say as soon as you walk in its very lovley and clean, picturesque just reminded me of a nice little cafe in Venice. Everyone was friendly. We ordered 2 breakfasts - we made our own up which they accommodated. Unfortunately the mushrooms were missed on my partners whilst waiting for them to arrive his breakfasted started to go cold. My sausages on my breakfast to my opinion were not cooked and being pork it was not worth the risk, hash browns are suppose to be double cooked but were still slightly raw. I barely touched my breakfast, I did complain whilst I was there who did offer to make another breakfast but at that point I wasn't keen on it. I was assured they were cooked as the waitress eats them daily and its the type of meat still didn't convince me.. The offered a discount but never got an itemised bill after paying - personally £24 for 2 breakfast and drinks with discount if very pricey for food that should augheat a 4.6 star rating it currently holds. Last day of our break and...
