Chatwins - The Square — Restaurant in England

I thought it only fair to update this review after my wife bought a couple of bacon baps for us this morning. It's several months since our last visit.

What a difference! The baps were large, soft and delicious. They were appropriately buttered. The bacon was of the highest quality, plentiful and perfectly cooked. The best I've ever had. While I was eating, seated on a bench in the square, a passer-by looked down at the exposed interior and said "very generous", referring to the amount of bacon. I could only agree. I bet the astronauts on the ISS were nodding in agreement too.

It feels so good to write a review like this: from appalling to world class in one jump.

Bought a bacon bap, late afternoon. The bacon must have spent the whole day in a heated tray. It was hard as glass. Went back the following morning to complain and buy two more with the bacon straight out of the oven. These were excellent and we were given a refund. I have frequently this establishment regularly and had previously set asside issues encountered on almost every occasion as the quality of the doughnuts and sausage rolls is really quite good. To varying degrees I have encountered incoherant staff relating to taking orders and finding that they dont have the stock to deliver. Being a good sort I wouldnt make a fuss. But they could really do with a second till in this place and i find it hard to believe they run their inventory down to almost nothing each day when their factory is a couple of streets over. So l digress, today a sandwich was bought there with a small piece of plastic found inside. Heyho I understand these things happen but at the same time if im paying circa 3 pounds for one of your delicious sandwishes it is somewhat disappointing. See attached.. I will most likely go elsewhere in future as I have lost the will to go back due to dealing with the various precieved missteps...

Before I get on a rant I have to say the trainee (Lady in trainee badge) who served us was friendly and helpful.

The other member of staff (Who I assume was the senior member of staff) could not have been ruder. We waited several minutes to be served, nobody said anything to us in this time (For example we could have been told there was an imaginary queue for regulars who were about to walk in). As our turn came to be served a lady came in from outside the shop and the member of staff said to her "Were you here before them?" (Pointing at us) and then served her.

I truly cannot stand this sort of behaviour, is it too much to ask that you serve the people who you know full well have been waiting in the shop for the last 5 minutes right infront of you?

The carvery bap was great by the way, but there was already a bad taste in my mouth...
