We had a group of five, three being out of town guests staying with us. We selected Romazzino based on online reviews. One guest needed gluten-free food and beverages.
We were greeted at the entrance and led to our table. We ordered drinks but there was no GF beer and the cider that was listed on the menu wasn't available, so our GF guest had to drink wine. The beer selection isn't extensive and mainly light-bodied Italian lagers which aren't appropriate for some of the heavier foods on the menu, so I made do with a half pint of one of them. Note that the drinks menu doesn't appear to be online - I just checked again.
Three of us ordered starters. One of them was good. The Pistachio Houmous had little taste of pistachio and was quite bland. Mine, which was listed as Costata di Maiale (braised pork ribs), wasn't particularly tasty and had about one teaspoon of meat on it. One of our guests had the same item as a main and it was the same - very little meat. Is this the way it's supposed to be?
The other four main dishes: Waldorf Salad - very good. Mafiosa Pizza - the base was cooked OK on the outside, but the inside was very soft and very unlike traditional Italian pizza. Calzone Bolognese - blackened on the outside and again the inside was very soft and chewy. This dish came with a very sharp serrated knife which was needed to cut through the crust. It wasn't very tasty either. The other main, Pappardelle all’Anatra, had little evidence of the taste of duck and was quite bland.
A few members of the party were interested in a desert but given the rather unspectacular nature of the food so far decided against it and we asked for the bill. I was never asked how the meal was or for other feedback.
On another note - I went to the toilet and noticed that the seat in the men's toilet had some small solids congealed on the seat. If I had to guess, someone had been sick, and it wasn't properly cleaned up and left to dry out. It was disgusting to say the least!!
I'm sorry to have to write such a poor review but considering I had one some research to find a restaurant to impress our out-of-town guests I felt embarrassed about the whole experience and was...
Read more8 of us visited here yesterday (Tuesday) 4 male 4 female, can’t comment on the other 3 couples meals but I ordered the belly pork starter, the top fat on the belly pork had not been rendered down and the meal was quite tasteless, I then had the wagu steak as did the other 3 males, when it came the other 3 dishes were lovely lean slices of wagu cooked perfectly rare to medium, mine on the other hand was only half the size of the other 3 and half the slices were mainly fat, I called the waiter (manager) and asked why mine was completely different from the other ones, he then said it’s because yours is the end piece so I said I don’t want the end piece and could he take it back and change it which he did, by the time mine came everyone else had finished there’s so I had to eat on my own, half was cooked rare to medium half was medium to well where they had obviously picked the decent pieces of my last plate and just cooked some more and put the two together, it had not been rested so was bleading all over my plate, when you are having 4 of the same meals to the same table you should make sure that all them meals are & look the same before they leave the pass, also when they brought out the mains they hadn’t replaced the cutlery so we had to ask for that, when he eventually brought my wagu dish he just threw it on the table and walked off (very rude) my wife also had a pasta dish as her main she said half the pasta was very hard the other half was soggy, when the bill came it was £373 so four of us (males) paid £100 each giving them a £27 tip, the waiters then tried to get another £100 payment from my wife and when told what they were doing just walked off with no apology or no thanks for the £27 tip and at no point throughout the entire meal starters or main did we get any check back, I run two Airbnb’s in Nantwich and have booklets recommending local eateries this being one, I have removed this from the booklets today as I can not recommend them and never will neither will I...
Read moreAfter a previously excellent experience a couple of years ago we decided to treat ourselves for a special occasion. We had been looking forward to the meal all week, however sadly it didn't deliver.
The manager with a ponytail took our order standing behind me, rather than at the end of the table where the other manager and waitress addressed the table, which was a little awkward as I had to keep turning around to place the order. He didn't write the order down on a pad and I wasn't surprised to see that the side dish we had ordered was missed off the order and consequently didn't arrive until we had finished our mains. This wasn't an isolated incident, the table behind us, served by the same manager with the ponytail, also had dishes missing from their order. I found him a little rude and arrogant with no warmth or clear intent to ensure a good experience.
The fat on my rack of lamb hadn't been rendered at all, leaving more than a centimetre of fat on both cutlets (see image). The mash was lumpy and the pasta for the truffle and porcini FLAVOURED pasta (there are no mushrooms in this dish, just a bowl of supplier bought pasta) was drastically undercooked, possibly because it had been forgotten.
The waitress approached the table to clear the starter plates and asked if we wanted anything else or to see the dessert menu, before we had received our mains.
The décor is very modern and looks great, however it is quite small and can get a bit noisy, plus parking isn't great.
The other manager, who I believe is leaving, was the saving grace of the visit and provided exceptional service throughout. He is a shining example of what hospitality is all about. Given that the restaurant will be left in the charge of the other manager with the ponytail and the poor food, we unfortunately won't be back, which is a shame as it used to be a great restaurant, if a...
