For my wife's birthday we decided to go for a meal with some friends. There are lots of restaraunts in Poole, but we had never been to the Custom House before (we'd been in the bar a few times many years ago) and it looked nice, and the website and menu looked good so we decided to go. I booked earlier in the day. You can go on the website and register and print a voucher for limited menu for £30 for two people. You are apparently supposed to mention this when booking, but I didn't, but wasn't an issue. Prices seem to be around £28 for two courses per head, which isn't cheap, but then I thought the food was excellent and would certainly want to eat there again. Bottle of Pino was about £14, which is what you would expect.
The building is fantastic, though at time of writing Google Maps has it in the wrong place. We sat at the window with a view of the Sunseekers across the harbour. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The right amount of chat without being overbearing or intrusive. She had time to spend with us though, as for whatever reason, there were only two other customers in the place (literally, a couple sitting in the corner). It was a Monday night and I have no idea if this is common, but then the whole of the quay was very quiet indeed. The table layout, while I appreciate the place wan't full, were nicely spaced out so even at full capacity I don't think it would feel crowded.
I had chicken and my wife has the vegetarian option of goats cheese. Both meals were fantastic. We then had a Lemon Tart for pudding, which was nice, but not the best I've had.
The only downside of the night was when I went to use the little boys room (which were up many flights of stairs - could be an accessibility issue). The rather strange sink managed to spray water all over my crotch area in a comedy fashion, and then I burned my hand on the dryer. Be careful is all I'm saying.
We will certainly go again. I would be happy to pay the full price that they charge, but for the 2 course, 2 people deal for £30.00 (with limited menu) we will certainly look to go...
Read moreDespite going to Poole Quay nearly every weekend my husband and I had never been in to Custom House, we’re very pleased we finally did. It was lunch time and we hadn’t booked, we were greeted warmly by Nikki who told us food could be a 30 minute wait, we were fine with this as we wanted a drink anyway so offered to take any table they could spare, Nikki was very accommodating. We both ordered the Fish & Chips with minted mushy peas, it arrived in less than 15 minutes which was a very pleasant surprised and was delicious! The chips were so crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, the minted peas were fab and the batter on the fish was wonderful, it was fried but so crisp and non-greasy that it was as if it was oven baked… my husband and I agreed it was one of the best Fish & Chips we’ve had for quite a while… we are looking forward to coming back for a dinner next time and hope to be greeted by Nikki again,...
