We luckily managed to book a table for 2 adults and 2 children at the Rope and Anchor on a Wednesday evening in August and were so glad. The food is traditional pub food that is not only cooked and presented really well but which is also really tasty and so much better then that on offer in some of the chain pubs in the surrounding area. The pub itself is situated close enough to Poole quay to be near enough to most of the evening attractions but far enough away from the bustle and crowds on the quay itself. The pub is really clean and tidy throughout and even if you don’t manage to book a table for food yourself you should visit just for a drink to read about interesting history of the pub mentioned on a plaque on the stairs to the incredibly clean toilets on the 1st floor. This pub is a true treat for a nice family meal but book early to avoid being disappointed.

We have a tradition of going out for a family meal on the first Sunday of the month and decided that a return visit to the Rope & Anchor was in order. It's a Wadworth pub so a good selection of real ales available and the cellarman is doing a great job. The food is very much standard pub choices plus Sunday roasts and a few specials. Excellent value for money, well cooked, crackling cruncy and good yorkshire. I did find the cauliflower cheese a bit disappointing. The cauliflower was well cooked, suitably aldente, but the cheese sauce lt it down, a bit waterery which saw it pooling at the bottom of the dish, rather than coating the cauliflower. Conversely the Dorset Cheese Board at theend of the meal was a real highlight, rich in flavours and with a really good chutney. Atmosphere waqs relaxed, staff attentive, good value.

Came here for the first time for the Sunday roast dinner and all 3 of us are presently surprised at how good the food was; the portions are generous, even the meat, and everything tasted really good and fresh. The left overs from nan's roast (as stayed, very generous) was wrapped really well to take home. This is one of the only places my Notoriously fussy Nan has actually liked! The staff are friendly and the place is clean, stylish with a shipshape feel to it. Booking is recommended.

Firstly might I add this venue is under recent management changes so most of the past reviews are not the current management style that is disappointing.

Yesterday I put a review on Facebook only to end up having an argument with the management publicly. Then to find that they have now blocked me from the page and I’m sure trying to remove the review and the comments. Thankfully I took screen shots of all so will be re posting where I can.

The current management needs to take a very close look at how they deal with anybody, making a comment about how they running the business. It is not a good idea to create an argument with a customer that is raising a point. Even if a customer isn’t correct, the best form of dealing with something is to apologise and say thank you for bringing this to our attention and move forwards, not creating an argument. Given that the new management have only been in place for a short period of time, and I do feel that their current ratings do not reflect the actual current running of the venue and will be taking this up with Google. It’s unfair that the previous management teams have obviously done things correctly in supplying a good service to its customers. Sadly, obviously something didn’t work as they are no longer there and we are now stuck with the ones that are currently there that are argumentative.

If the current management had only just replied, my apologies, or we will look into this? Would’ve been much simpler. very disappointing service!

I can’t see how I can reply to your comment so I’ll modify this.

You are still failing to understand or see my original points. I don’t care that your partner is very passionate about the venue, like I’ve said before, and I have screenshots of everything do not create arguments with customers that make a valid review, then to block them from your page, is only stopping them being able to voice their own opinion of a public venue.

I am not interested in an argument with anyone I’m more interested in getting my point across, this could’ve been dealt with very swiftly and very quickly! Unfortunately, you decided to create an argument rather than just say, I’m very sorry about your experience with take your comments on board!

This makes me think that you’re extremely novice at running a venue. I dearly hope that you take everything I’ve mentioned I’m board and I wish you all...

We used to visit regularly on holiday when run by the old owners .

So were pleased we booked a Sunday lunch in advance for our holiday again this year now that it has changed hands . The new owners and staff are really friendly, running it really well and serving up excellent food and drink. Warm and friendly welcome on arrival from the staff. Nice and clean and pleasant atmosphere. Well spaced out tables. Ladies toilets (upstairs) really clean and even have complimentary sanitary products if needed.

Our Roast beef and yorkshire pudding sunday lunch was really tasty and so enjoyable. We like our meat well done, and they obliged by cooking it to our liking. Veg and roast potatoes were perfectly to our taste , a big pot of gravy to go with the big hearty meal. My massive portion of apple crumble was full of big chunks of apple and didn't skimp on the jugful of custard. Just perfect! Excellent and attentitve service throughout.

We rebooked for the wednesday night and yet again a really warm welcome from the male member of staff who served us on Sunday and good service again from Courtney . Hubby's ham, cheese & pickles ploughmans and my fish, chips & minted mushy peas meals were yet again very tasty. Rounded off with vanilla cheesecake & a really fruity compote.

Rebooked for our final night on the friday , and both had the fish & chips followed by the big apple crumble & custard for me. Again absolutely scrumptious!

This is our favourite pub in Poole and will definitely dine there again most nights when next on holiday , as we have confidence in the quality of the food , as well as enjoying the friendly atmosphere, cleanliness and...

The Rope and Anchor provided a truly delightful dining experience that left us with fond memories. The food was delicious, with a special mention to their Sunday lunch that was both visually appealing and satisfying to the taste buds (please do book and have one as the Sunday Lunches are so good). The wonderful variety of beers came as a pleasant discovery, with each one presenting its own distinct flavors while keeping a clear and crisp profile, for those who appreciate a good ale, your expectations will certainly be met.

The warm and inviting attitude of the staff, along with their attentive service, contributed to the overall appeal of the establishment. They adeptly attended to our needs, creating an atmosphere where we felt like cherished patrons. The evenings held their own enchantment, as the entertainment seamlessly matched the cozy ambiance that characterizes a traditional pub setting, and when the entertainment elevated its tempo, it brought an additional layer of joy to the experience, resonating delightfully with everyone in the pub.

We want to express our gratitude for the lovely experience during our holiday. The Rope and Anchor's inviting ambiance, coupled with the great variety of food, beers, and spirits, made it a memorable stop.

Thank you to the entire team for making our visit special.

Kind regards Steve, Gina, Lydia & Hollie (the two quiet colouring in...
