Got conned coming in here. Terrible experience. Do not eat on the 3rd or 4th floor. Queued up for a while for what looked like a lovely place downstairs - warm, cosy, Christmas music playing, nice atmosphere. We were shown this where we queued but upstairs was disgusting.
We got sat on the 4th (top floor). As soon as we got past the 2nd floor, it got dark, cold, damp, the music stopped playing, the service dwindled down to 1 or 2 people who seemed like temps and who were not interested in giving warm service. It was literally like going into a different restaurant to the one shown to you downstairs. I asked politely to be seated somewhere else but the group of waiting staff dismissed me rudely without any care and no offer of any good service or consideration whatsoever. I asked if they could let us know if another table came up downstairs but they did not (walked past several empty tables when we left too). To be fair, we should have left when we got sat down but you hope don't you that you're just being fussy or it'll get better. They must have a reason for charging people to eat here and letting them queue then putting them in the attic....
Food was nice so its a shame. But we were sat in a dark, cold, damp room with no music, barely any service, our drinks were forgotten about (never received them and they were still on the bill when we went to pay). The decor was shocking (like an old travelodge, or the interior of a bus) and just so different to downstairs. We weren't once asked if we were OK or if we enjoyed the meal or our time there. So here I am writing a review instead. At one point we we were the only table left upstairs and someone who seemed like a senior staff member came in and started talking loudly about shift patterns across the room with another member of staff while we were sat there, as if we didn't exist. This whole time we had been polite and friendly by the way.
Just really shameful to mislead customers putting all the pomp and frills at the front and then carting them off to the tip at the back and charging the same. The food did not make up for it. A classic example of greedy owners trying to use all available space to cram customers in, treat them poorly, con them out of their money and send them on their merry way knowing they can get away with it because it's in a busy city in a prime location with an endless supply of customers. The service probably wasn't great because the staff have no training or don't get paid enough to care. Poor business management on the whole.
If I was the manager/owner I'd...
Read moreWhilst this is my go to place and the roast chicken soup is DELICIOUS! I went yesterday for lunch, to the parliament street one as that had the RC soup and the other one didn’t, there was a different waitress who when I asked for pink lemonade which they normally have stated in a condescending way and a head wobble “the menus changed lovey” which annoyed me instantly. She asked several times should she come back as I was trying to give her my order, we knew exactly what we wanted when we got there as that’s why we went - for the soup! We ordered 3 glasses of water and 3 lunches - 2 bowls of soup and a cheese on toast. She said the soup came with 3 salads and to choose which, I questioned this as I’d never had this told to me before I just wanted bread as usual and as you would with soup. We had to choose 3 salads per bowl of soup which we didn’t want. She then came back after we’d ordered and asked “because you’ve ordered off the main menu would you like some sweet potato fries with your food” we thought the way she asked it was like it came with so we said ok. So 2 bowls of soup, 1 cheese on toast and 3 waters were what we ordered and what we wanted. We got the 3 salads on each of the 2 soups and these random sweet potato wedges. We had waited a ridiculous time for our lunch and had to go get a food shop in for my daughter at uni before 4.00 being a Sunday. So I paid quickly at the till on my cc. £44.90 the bill came to £44.90! The soup was listed on the menu as £7.50 which is pricey for soup - it’s good soup and you normally get a load of really nice bread and butter wrapped like little sweets which we didn’t get at all. I had glanced at they’d charged £5.50 for the wedges, so that’s £20.50 and leaves the cheese on toast …? I feel cheated I have had an unenjoyable and uncomfortable experience which left me feeling quite disturbed and robbed at the whole experience and I won’t be going again. My daughter feels the same and won’t be going with her uni friends either and they normally go a lot. I would have sent this just to Lucky days but you don’t have an email. I would’ve raised this in your shop had I had the time and seen the receipt but I’d been there too long already
So utterly...
Read moreFormally know as Lucky Days , obviously not lucky no more , as the Breakfast and service was Oh my Days awful !
Not sure what was going on today but no communication between staff. We got seated and ordered 5 meals and drinks .
Tea for 2 came lovely but a thimble of milk, ordered more but no milk turned up . Cold tea . black yuck.
Meal 1 came 😋 yum . But the 7 year old ordered pancakes and chicken .... no chicken, so got told that will be along soon .We asked for utensils as none was given to us . 5 minutes went by then the other part of our order came , but no chicken for the pancakes still. And still waiting for utensils... cold meal 1 .
so the wife went looking for some . Poor poor poor 😢 .
20 minutes later the chicken arrived 😕. But by this time pancakes were eaten , so a plain 2nd course of chicken was served to my disappointed 7 year old . Meanwhile everyone else had nearly finished the meal .
Run down on a awful greezy spoon 12 pound Breakfast.
10/10 poached Egg 🥚
4/10 sausage nice but undercooked
7/10 Beans. stood to long crusty on top
0/10 Mushrooms yuk ,awful ,disgraceful tinned sliced watery mush . Not fresh and a far cry from the old lucky Days .
1/10 Bacon covered in white brine, so very cheap Bacon 🥓 yuk. Again that didn't happen at the old Lucky Days . Not fresh.
4/10 Tomato 🍅 cheap nasty no taste and not grilled correctly. Again the old Lucky Days was from small tasty tomatoes on the vine not asda price rubbish .
1/10 bread . some God awful 2 bits of finger length bread. No butter as you wouldn't be able to spread it on it was that thin , even if you did have a knives.
7/10 Black pudding, undercooked as it should be slightly crispy on the outside . Lovely taste but poorly cooked a running theme .
So I would recommend going to a greezy spoon at the side of a road, the service and quality may just be better .
Obviously the new owners have seen pound signs and totally made a mockery of the food , quality, staff and service.
And it wasn't really busy as it normally is due to part of the place being used for a staff meeting . Hope it was about how naff it is now . Bring back...
