I had to think long and hard about this review and it's probably one of the hardest star ratings I've ever given. It's so far away from a 5 star rating but the difference between a 4 and a 2 was very difficult. The attempt was 5 star but the execution was way off. I have to start with the wine. Why if you're going to have a 5 course menu would you not match the wines to the food? You have an overly large and pretentious wine list but can't provide a wine for each course? This is odd but being unable to suggest a wine is perverse. I ordered an orange wine which I had no experience of and no knowledge of this style. I queried it's intense sourness. I repeatedly mentioned how it didn't go with the food. Thanks for that and thanks for the off wine. Having looked up the bottle since I see you sold me a bad bottle. How long had that been sat on your shelf? The food was on the whole good but the 15 minute wait between the fish and meat course was inexcusable. The pork belly was stringy, the cod was very slightly over cooked. The lamb was perfect and I loved the match with the puréed parsnip, I'd not tried that before nor would have thought of it. I do have to quibble at what felt like a 15 minute wait between the meat and fish course, really ruined the flow of the evening. I'll be advising people to avoid the restaurant, such a shame. Very much a case of so close and yet so far. My final comment would be that it was very disappointing to find mould on the water...
Read moreOh, if you fancy to have a go at Michelin star experience parody you cant go wrong with this place! If you ever wondered how Thermomix dishes taste , and especially in love with baby mashed food, then again you are in the right place. Our taster menu was certainly an experience - unfortunately not very good one. Combined with poor service, silly wine list and some other special attractions like sets of silverware being changed after each bite for you :) On the flip side perfectly cooked fish - be it with no taste, and perfectly cooked lamb, just with no seasoning, salt, or anything - so if you into raw meat straight from animal, with no additives of any sort then you will love it! I did not. My stomach that can take any exotic street food including roasted roaches could not cope with...
Read moreWith a week of best restaurants on the island, this hands down was the standout winner. Anywhere which has the confidence to offer amuse-bouches is either a little fancy or has the kitchen skills to entertain and excite - unsurprisingly the latter.
The portion control is in keeping with the outstandingly reasonable prices - with superb quality food, less really is more. But the menu combinations, flavour sensations and twists of classic fine dining made to look commonplace are just thrilling.
In fact this is the only restaurant where I have both tipped and added to the bill. Ever, in 30 years of eating out. Make sure you book though since it's a lovely but very wee spot on...
