The chef here used to be at a local golf club with a loyal following especially for Sunday lunches. Knowing what a great chef he is it was therefore really necessary to come and try The Albion. Orders are taken at the bar and we shared a Ham & Cheddar croquette with poached egg & chilli jam then followed by sausage & mash with red cabbage & onion gravy all washed down with a couple bottles of wine. Great food at a reasonable cost. I discovered a bright, kid-friendly, modernised, open plan, hipster focused establishment at the Old Albion. The chalk-written beer wall nicely highlights the beer options above a neat row of taps, however just because it’s written in chalk the options will most likely be focussed on Laine produce given that this is a Laine Pub Co establishment now.
If beer’s not your thing then the pub is now ‘gin obsessed’, according to their website, with more than 20 gins available. Well it is Hove after all.

Read moreDo remember this place before it was refurbished. Was always a spit and sawdust old mans boozer, but always had a bit of character to it, with a traditional local pub atmosphere. Now with the refurb that has completely gone. Usual story in the city of traditional pub being taken over and revamped for the trendy crowd. There is some good ale, though have to check the prices and have completely over egged the gin menu. The staff I found were polite and served me quite quickly, but were just like the establishment they work in cold and not very friendly.
