Came in with my girlfriend at 6pm without a booking but the man at the front man kindly let us in. A gentleman in a smart white shirt started to ask if we would like drinks. We said we were ready to order everything but the man said he only took drink orders. Our drinks arrived in good time but then we had a long wait to be asked what food we wanted. The man that only took drinks order walked up and down the restaurant aimlessly, ignoring us as we were waiting to be served. The man that let us in was also walking up and down the restaurant looking at order papers also as aimlessly without any real purpose, also ignoring us. The front man kept bringing in people from outside but we were ignored. I noticed some of the other staff were just wandering aimlessly too. Although two girls were working full steam ahead in prepping tables and serving people their food.
Our starter arrived with one dirty plate, we asked a young girl to replace it and it was done replaced kindly and promptly. And then we waited over 25 minutes to receive our mains. The food was okay but the wait has ruined our appetite and our patience was rather thin as we were hungry. Then the man that let us in at the front tried to take our plates away even though my girlfriend was still eating. He may have just not seen it but it felt like he was trying to rush us out when we had waited nearly an hour just to get to our mains. Was rather tempted to leave.
My girlfriend's pizza came unsliced though I've seen some of the staff cutting other people's pizzas.
A member of the kitchen staff was eating something but proceeded to carry on working and did not see him wash his hands. He was working in plain sight near the bar so I know he didn't stop to wash his hands.
I'm unsure why we had to wait so long because at the time we went in, the restaurant was half full or less so I didn't expect such a long wait.
No tips were given and we declined to have dessert. I'm glad the didn't have a service charge as we would have kicked off.
The men's toilet cubicle door didn't close fully, needs readjusting, just wanted to point that out.
Please use this feedback to improve upon the unsatisfactory service...
Read moreStopped for lunch with my wife and newborn daughter. Seated right away, sort of stuck in a corner due to our push chair, fair enough. We had a starter, main and a lovely bottle of wine. The garlic bread was nice, the pasta mains were very nice and generously portioned. The issue comes with the service. Not long after being seated, one of the gentlemen working that afternoon came to the table next to ours and began setting it up for a party of 4. He suddenly turned to us and said, "you're going to have to move your push chair out of the way of this table". Plot twist: it wasn't in the way. He asked that we move it away from our table. I asked what he suggested we do with our 10 week old baby, he said something about a high chair. I think he could tell by the look on my wife's face, that that was a ridiculous suggestion. He was gruff and somewhat rude. He didn't really offer any helpful options, just said we needed to make room for him.
I'll cut this short to say that we have been to Piero's several times in the past, prior to having a child, and always enjoyed it. The impression we now have is that they would rather we not frequent their restaurant as a party of 3, as they don't seem very child friendly. No worries. We won't. LPT: your restaurant makes money from happy customers, not rude staff. You got our money this time, you...
Read moreSadly, it seems there's been a huge fall from the top for Pieros. This place has always been top of the list for an Italian meal in Truro- my family and I have been going here for years to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries etc, but my most recent visit, with a business contact, was terrible.
To start with, (and not entirely the restaurants fault) we came to Pieros to find it completely empty on a Monday night- this should maybe have been a warning that something had changed since my last visit.
We persevered, only to see numerous ants scurrying around on the table. Fruit flies buzzing around our faces. The staff demanded we ordered starters and mains together, siting the kitchen was going home. At one point, they were so keen to get us to leave, the waiter came over in an otherwise completely empty restaurant, and poured the remainder of our wine out into our glasses, before standing within feet of us while we finished up.
All in all, the food wasn't a disappointment, despite having been forced to pick the first thing on the menu due to time pressure from the staff, but this place has seen much better days, and the ants/flies were just a surreal cherry on a very embarrassing...
