We had left planning to come here on the walk through into Hove after having an alright experience on the back end of last year.
After clearing up the table ourselves and sitting down we waited to have our order taken. After ordering and waiting 10-15 minutes we got our order; unfortunately they had forgotten our tea and to remove the mayo from the vegan BLT as requested.
'The Big Breakfast' was a big disappointment. I had to inhale the bacon as it was quickly on its way back to fridge temperature. Somehow both cold and overcooked. The sausages followed the trend as they had dark crispy skin but cold mushy insides. The eggs were coated in a layer of grease and were half runny/half over.
The mushrooms that I had were actually great, so were the hash browns. Both being well cooked and were a positive of the breakfast! Until I found a hair on the final hash brown. Which at that point I had to stop eating, pay and leave. I don't like to waste food but I couldn't eat the rest of it. We still would have been billed for the tea we didn't receive if I hadn't have pointed it out. Which was met with a flat apology.
I paid £25 for us to have a poor breakfast, service and overall experience. I doubt I'll give them...
Read moreStopped off on the spur of the moment for a tea & toast & was so glad I did. Friendly, on-the-ball staff and really reasonable prices. I ordered a tea with oat milk and 2 slices of sourdough with plant butter & marmite, and the total bill was £3.80. Just yesterday I got a tea in an un named cafe (ok it was the Flour Pot) where the tea alone was £3.20 (I did comment on the price and won’t be going back). So this was much more like it. I’ll definitely be coming back to Richard’s, next time for lunch. Recommend!
This is an update since my original review. The owners asked if I ever did come back for lunch… and not only did I do just that, I had breakfast and lunch in the same day and brought a friend for lunch. When I reappeared for lunch, the gorgeous Scottish waitress I’d had that morning hugged me hello. What a completely lovely thing to do. So yes, I came back and the only thing stopping me from being a proper regular is that I live in east Brighton and only make it over this way when I’m doing the charity shops of George st! Needless to say the lunch was delicious AND not...
Read moreHad the pleasure of having brunch at Richards today with my daughter and her friend - have eaten here before and loved it - have to say , the lovely scottish lady who works there is simply THE nicest , happiest person you will ever meet - OMG - she could not do enough to make sure we were all happy - she even hugged my daughter and her mate when we left . She seemed to know so many customers and went out of her way to move tables to accommodate bigger groups that came in - nothing was a hassle! Have never been served by such a lovely and attentive person - EVER ! I had the breakfast bap (minus egg) which was epic - she even came back to me after I ordered to see if I maybe fancied a hash brown in it instead of the egg to make it more exciting - bless ! Food was bloomin lovely (My daugher had the Brie and bacon panini and her friend had a chicken and bacon panini which they both said were amazing !) but its the service that will now make Richards my Go To cafe for brekkie - kudos to you all ! You made the 3 of us just smile with your infectious happiness...
