Rubins Mediterranean Restaurant and Café — Restaurant in England

I have given Rubins one star because I am unable to give none. We unfortunately chose to eat at Rubins today when I had an important medical appointment at 2.20pm. Our order was taken at 12.53pm when we were told to expect a wait of 30-35 minutes. We told the manager that we had a deadline but that 35 minutes wait would be acceptable. Other customers arrived and were served before us. We witnessed the manager bullying staff and he had a very unfortunate condescending attitude to us as two women. We were brought some dips as an apology when it was discovered that our order had not reached the kitchen. We cancelled the food order and were about to leave at 1.55pm when the food was thrust at us by the cook. We did not have time to eat, were so rushed we were unable to enjoy it and left much of it. The manager insisted we paid in full, and by that time I was so anxious about my appointment I very reluctantly paid. Each member of staff had a different excuse as to why our order had taken so long, the manager overrode them all and said he'd put the order in his pocket. This is clearly a blatant lie as the order was taken electronically. I arrived at my important appointment 10 minutes late and was very rushed. We were conscious that several other customers were dissatisfied with the service today. One table had ordered wraps but were served club sandwiches (they arrived after us but were served much sooner), another table were asking where their coffee order was and yet another had been served the wrong sandwich. I feel very sorry for the young waiting staff who were doing their best in a chaotic situation. They were bullied relentlessly by the manager. In summary, don't even consider eating at Rubins, the manager doesn't deserve...

Whilst looking for somewhere to have breakfast during our stay I found Rubins and was intrigued by the menu and Gluten Free choices they offered. We also wanted somewhere nice for our last day and this ticked all the boxes.

It absolutely exceeded expectations!

We were greeted by the most friendly, attentive and helpful staff, an amazing place with beautiful decor and a great vibe and absolutely amazing food!

Their Gluten Free options are impressive and I loved being able to chat to the staff there for recommendations.

Their tea menu is wild! They have so many amazing blends to offer and a great knowledge to help you find a tea that’s good for you. Their coffee menu is equally as good and we opted for a Yorkshire blend Tea and Turkish coffee - we all really enjoyed our choices.

The food - wow!

We had pancakes (which are handmade!!!), a Full English, Shakshuka and I had the Menemen (Gluten Free) and everything was perfect and super tasty. I was actually eyeing up all other food coming past as it looked amazing too!

As we sat eating we said we MUST come back for dinner very soon :)

They also have the most incredible patisserie with cakes to suit everyone so I brought home a Vegan and Gluten Free Millionaire Shortbread which was fabulous!

Food, service, coffee, atmosphere all comes together to make this an absolutely amazing independent place to visit for anything from a cup of tea to a full on food spread!

We arrived at 1pm on a Monday to a quiet restaurant, less than half full. The venue itself is lovely, it's nicely decorated and the atmosphere was good (initially). However, there were some major issues with service at Rubin's. We waited 20 minutes with no service before we had to approach the staff ourselves. It took another 20 minutes for our 2 coffees to arrive. Another 30 minutes passed before being told that our food had been burnt and was being made again. It took another 30 minutes for our food to be served. Meanwhile we are surrounded by customers having similar issues. When the food eventually arrived the chicken burger and fries were tasty, but the toasted sandwich was soggy. The staff did not once approach the table to check if everything was okay or to take any more orders after my initial approach. At the end of the meal an elderly man had a fall and the staff did the absolute bare minimum, not offering him a drink or checking to see if he needed any further assistance.
