I was rather dismayed with my meal, I ordered the Thai red mullet, which was okay but miniscule. For the price of £17, I was expecting a main meal but it was the size of a starter, around 5 small pieces of lightly battered fish with a very spicy but COLD sauce over the top and a bog standard salad without dressing. I was more full up from drinking the pint of coke I ordered which cost £4.50.
My friends had the pork schnitzel, one of my friends passed me a slice to try as she too was unhappy with her meal, the pork was so dry, the pig must have been a free range pig in the Sahara desert, before becoming dessicated and breaded with an unpleasant overdose of sage.
As for my poor partner, as a vegetarian he found there were almost no options at all for him, he settled on a 'superfood salad' with cheese crostini. The salad consisted of what appeared to be shop bought coleslaw, plain bog standard salad and some tinned mixed beans. The crostini was apparently okay but again, tiny and absolutely not worth the price for what was essentially a starter.
The waiting staff were fairly disinterested, they forgot to bring drinks orders over and at times a member of staff repeatedly tried to swipe my friend's drink before he'd finished.
We would have complained but the waiter serving us went awol. No one else came to check on us or give us the bill so we went to the till to settle up in the end and just wanted to leave.
I also notice the management like to reply to negative reviews denying and invalidating everything anyone says happened, for example if someone advises their steak was burnt to cinders, the management will advise them it was rare, if someone says their carbonara was disgusting, the management advise them it was in fact delicious - personally I always see this as a red flag when I see this sort of behaviour from an...
Read moreShocking and very dissaponiting food offering. Hadn't been out for ages with the family so we decided to go for food. I Had heard of Sam's in the city and thought it would be a good choice. Two of us are vegans and the options looked good. I have to say none of the meals were inspiring but the two vegan meals were terrible. I ordered the homemade bean burger with chips and slaw. The buger was dry and looked like something from a cheap frozen boxed Iceland burger and tasted empty, no flavour really bland. The roll was a boring standard roll, the cheese was awful and that was it, no relish, no tom, onion or lettuce. Chips with pretty horrible and as for the slaw it consisted of a few shreds of carrot and salad leaves. My god Sam if that's the best you can do considering the prices your charging, I'd shut shop now! I found it quite arrogant of you to think we as customers think this is acceptable. My two daughters ordered the apple mojito cocktail £8 each. I could have mixed something better myself, tasted of nothing. I didn't eat my meal, couldn't even though I was very hungry. I went to the bar to say, sorry but I'm not willing to pay for my meal and the two cocktails, they were very apologetic and removed the items from the bill. Having said that i would have rather paid good money for good food and service. Cutlery was all wrapped up together as though couldn't be bothered, service was slow. Staff seemed rushed to get away from the table, we had to grab them quick to ask for vegan mayo, and vegan cheese. Overall, absolute rubbish. I would never...
Read moreFirst impressions were a little disappointing, it all felt a bit "sticky" when we arrived, both in terms of the tables and the air. A few tables were dirty although they clearly weren't busy, at least I guess not - one of the staff was stretched out on a banquette at the back having a snooze! However, having had good experiences at other Sam's we decided to stay. We were soon attended to by a very pleasant young man who tidied/wiped our table and brought us drinks. We soon acclimatised and a few more people arrived which made the place feel a bit less sad. Although tempted by the various burgers on offer, particularly the intriguing vegan burger, we both opted for salads. One hot, one cold, so very different, we enjoyed them very much. Very filling so, sadly, no room for a pud. Service was actually very good, both servers were bright and friendly but what struck me most was an overheard conversation with a neighbouring table who had very specific dietary requirements - substitutions were readily available and the chef even made one component specially to accommodate the diet. Nothing was too much trouble, very impressive. Overall, a nice enough early supper but I feel we would probably try another of the several restaurants in Truro before...
