Good ice cream, Rude manager, rude service! Not going back!
I usually come here for ice cream. Every time family and friends visit from out of time, I rake them here for ice cream too. On 7th May 22 Saturday, my husband, I, our 4 day old newborn, my auntie, my cousin and her 6 year old daughter walked from Salthouse to Scarlett. On the way we passed so many icecream options and vans, I kept telling the 6 year old to be patient that we were going to get the best one, and she should wait until we got to the Pier, and we would find the best at Scarlett. Long story short, we got there and the ice cream window was closed but the door was open with 3 of the staff standing in the corner and chatting. So we peaked in to ask if they were open. They said no. I was about to say “This little girl (pointing to the 6 year old who was now very upset and disappointed after all the wait) has been …” but one of the staff, assuming she was the manager as others were looking at her, didn’t even let me finish my sentence, and abruptly and rudely said “we’ve been closed for 45 minutes”. They didn’t have to serve us, though it would have been polite to do so since they were there, 3 of them, the door was open, and a sad little girl with a postpartum woman were desperate for ice-cream. Still, all we needed was common decency and kindness. The answer easily could have been “sorry, wish we could help but…” They can serve the best ice cream in the world going forward. I’m not going back there or faking anyone...
Read moreTwice in a row left due to some poor customer service. Very polite about it and of course if you want to have rule that says you can't move tables together to accommodate 6 people, that's entirely within the owner's rights. Still, a good reason to head to the superb restaurant on Clevedon Pier who seem to want your business.
EDIT Returned to Clevedon yesterday - this time decided against Scarletts we tried 'Number 5 The Beach' a few doors down. Couldn't have been more different. Just drinks and a cake for 8 - but the kids fancied an ice cream, which wasn't on the menu. Thought we'd chance our arm anyway - and sure enough they cobbled together glasses of ice cream for each of us. As with Scarlett's they'd have been perfectly within their rights to say no - yet SUCH a difference in attitude.
SECOND EDIT With thanks and appreciation for the reply - as my initial review said, it is entirely your prerogative. It's a shame you don't permit your tables to be moved by customers for their own safety, as the team were perfectly happy for two pensioners to help move them back. Suspect the first explanation we got "The boss doesn't want to scratch the patio tiles" may...
Read moreWhat is going on here.... sandwich very mediocre it was what it was. Would have been nice with a little salad as only came with a little pot of crisps. We also added on a bowl of fries which for some reason came out way after our sandwiches. I can 100% give allowances for busy but I have a very low tolerance for the lack of standards.
For some reason every salt grinder seemed to be broken or empty, same with the pepper. The vinegar was clear and had some nasty stuff floating in it.
The menus where absolutely disgusting! I'm sorry but if im expected to pay 9 quid for a sandwich the menu that was absolutely covered in sauces, grease and god knows what else didn't fill me with confidence. There was no napkins on the table either. Also there is a lovely bit of art on the wall, one of your customers must have left there some time ago i think it was made with tomato ketchup.
All this said I can see why people come here, the location. It's right on the sea front and I'm sure with a little tlc it can be a real nice place but just seems to have lost its spark somewhere just...
