This is a brilliant, somewhat hidden, back lane pub. I’ve had many good times in here over the years. It’s a nice intimate place for a good night of drinking, talking and having a laugh. It occasionally has live music and has a good selection of proper beer and ale. It’s location gives it an old worldy, out of the way feel, and is generally a quieter, lower key spot compared to the rowdier options at the end of the lane on Micklegate. Set off the main street just out of sight due to the street bending. Long pub with a rear courtyard where we once sat in a freezing winter as the inside was rammed. Had their house 3.8% bitter brewed by Half Moon. Very good. One of six hand pumped real ales. They have bar billiards as well. I love the game; far better than pool and takes up little room.
