Ipfu Japanese Restaurant — Restaurant in England

Food is reasonably good but service is terrible.

Visited March 2018: Terrible service. Booked a table for 5 and after 30mins of being there had to approach staff to ask to have our order taken. First dish didn't arrive for over an hour after that. Dishes were sporadically served over the next hour and a half with some of our party not getting any food for over 2 hours after walking in. All this time we had to keep approaching staff (physically leaving our seats to do so sometimes) to ask where our food was. Other people in the restaurant arrived after us and got served and left in half the time. However, some others looked to waiting a long time too. The food itself is of fairly decent quality, but vegetarian sushi is clearly prepared in the same place as the meat/fish sushi as some of it came with the odd fish egg on (I don't know whether you class fish eggs as vegetarian or not, but it's worth noting). We asked for a discount for the wait and were offered a measly 10% off the bill. I'm not sure what has happened to the restaurant in the last year but it's now the worst service I've ever had in a restaurant. If they made any effort without prompting multiple times to do anything about it it would...

The good: The girl with glasses who served us was really friendly and helpful, always coming back to refill our tea, and very attentive to our needs. The food was pretty authentic (grew up sampling a large amount of Japanese restaurants), and the atmosphere was very relaxed and clean.

The bad(really bad): one member of staff (the girl without glasses and with pony tail) was very rude. She came off as impatient, abrupt, and not bothered. When we asked to have our food boxed up, she seemed annoyed and reluctant to do so. Didn't even ask us how our meal was. When paying in the end, she just shoved the card machine in my face. I spent a good minute trying to put my pin in to realise I had to first confirm the amount first. I wouldn't have wasted that time if she had bothered to tell me. When I didn't understand what she was trying to get me to do, she just kept pointing at the machine with a shrill and exasperated tone, saying 'this this this!!!!'. Might I add we were literally the only people in the restaurant, so no reason for her to rush me, or to be snappy. Just a member of staff with horrible attitude that ruined the ending of...
