We didn't eat at this pub but instead, myself and 2 friends went there around 10pm last Thursday evening for drinks after eating at a local restaurant. At 10.30pm, to our surprise, last orders were called. We decided to get another drink so we could continue to enjoy our evening, however, 10mins later one of the staff proceeded to put plastic cups on our table as well as the other tables where patriots were enjoying their drinks. I didn't realise that was the pub's way of basically telling everyone to pour your drink into the plastic cup and piss off!!! The employee said nothing whilst distributing the plastic cups nor did the bar staff serving the last orders! Had I known that, I wouldn't have bothered getting another drink! I am Brighton born and bred and used to frequent this pub for years but honestly I definitely would not bother going again - it's run by "kids" with no atmosphere. It just felt like we were being rushed to get out so they could close up and go! Maybe all pubs do this when business is slow? Loads of people came into the pub just after 10.30 but were all turned away because last orders had already been announced! Obviously something is not working right for this pub as there were only a handful of people there for a Thurs night before Xmas - maybe that is why they shut up shop so early? This used to be one of the most thriving and famous pubs in Brighton! I won't...
Read moreChristmas 3 hour experience! Went to the pump house for Christmas Dinner... after hearing great things about this pub...I can honestly say the experience was awful! We booked for 1500.. we got served drinks very quickly, but waited an hour for starters. Nothing was said as to why it was taking so long. Other couples started to ask why the long wait, and then the manager came out and said it was part of a 3 hour experience (considering we were booked for 1500-1745...which wouldn't have been 3 hours!) The couple on another table said how awful the turkey was (frozen veg, which was rock hard) then another couple stated the same.. so we decided to leave it as it was now 2 hours and still not had the main. We paid £120 deposit and asked for a refund, as basically we only had the starter of pate, prawn cocktail and a pastry tart... hardly filling! Yes we had drinks, but that was non alcoholic lager, soft drinks and 1 of our party out of 4 having alcoholic beverage.... today we saw we had been refunded £11.45... REALLY...
Not happy and will be seeing the manager, who I can say had the personality and attitude of basil fawlty and nothing was his issue!. Wasn't going to write a review, but seeing this joke of a refund, if it wasn't...
Read moreVisited this pub on the Saturday 9th August for drinks at roughly 9pm with my wife before going to dinner at the Ivy. At 9.30 a member of the staff came to everyone and told us to exchange glasses to plastic, why people and ourselves asked ? It's our policy he replied, the 4 different groups of people said give us a minute and we'll finish off our drinks. As soon as he said he'd be back in 2 minutes a woman door person [ security ] came over demanding i exchange glasses and whilst I was finishing my gin and tonic she snatched it from my grasp with severe aggression and rushed off. How the stem of the glass didn't break is by pure luck. There was no signs or Pryor warning this was going to happen the exchange policy and everyone in this area left the pub in astonishment. I complained to the bar manager who was extremely apologetic and offered us free drinks to which we refused, but this aggression could of led to trouble and it would of been the security who started it. We use this pub every time we visit Brighton but will...
