Had booked a table the day of the meal. We turned up and then waited for more than 35 minutes to be seated. I was even starting to joke with my partner about leaving. Eventually placed on a table for two in the upstairs bit where there were two large tables seated. It was the noisiest room I have ever eaten in. I could barely hear my dining companion speak.
As for the food, the starter came out as a microwaved cheese stodge I'm afraid, the centre of the food was nowhere near as hot as its outside. I also had to ask twice for a second glass of wine, so I felt forgotten and not very important.
By this time I just wanted to leave as the noise levels were almost unbearable, in which one table started loudly singing 'That's Amore'. My main course, which came quickly, was the "Salome", which would have been really nice if it hadn't been tainted, I believe, by the taste of burned garlic [unless that was part of the intended flavour of the dish]
By the end I was very pleased to be out of there and I kept apologising to my partner all the way home for the experience. On a different evening I would have had a different experience, I'm sure. But it wasn't. And for me, it was an evening I could have spent somewhere else.
I'm sorry: 2 stars for the fact that I felt unimportant to them in the face of two large parties. I hated the experience but not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe used to visit Valle D'Oro regularly, however probably hadn't been for about 10 years and our visit last night reminded us what we have been missing out on.
Valle DāOro is an amazing family run independent Italian Restaurant in Newbury, down by the Clock Tower. The food and drink selection is incredible, so many options for Steaks, Chicken, Fish and even a Tapas section. The service was friendly, attentive without being overbearing. You could really tell that the staff really care about every one of their customers, a real pleasure.
I had a pasta dish for starter, massive portion but delicious so had to finish it all. The others in the group had a selection, whitebait, fresh lobster soup, mushrooms and filleted sardines and every dish was delicious.
Main course, we all had Steaks which were delicious, sauces were flavoursome, thick and incredibly tasty. The vegetables were delicious and the chips unreal, seemed to be home made.
Puddings were a different level as well, Tiramisu the highlight as you would expect. Each portion was huge and delicious.
The wine was great as well, the house red very drinkable.
Having rediscovered this little gem, we have already planned our next visit. A fantastic family run business, you can see how they have been so successful over the years, long may...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreValle DāOro is a wonderful family run independent Italian Restaurant in Newbury town centre, itās food and drink selection is very good, so many options for steaks, the service was fast and friendly and you could tell the staff really care about their customers and the venue itself is cosy and well decorated.
I had the steak in peppercorn sauce, I think if I ordered again Iād go for rare instead of medium rare. The fillet steak itself was incredible, itās in my top five all time steaks, and it one of my go to items on menus so Iāve had lots in the past. The peppercorn sauce was also excellent, very thick and incredibly peppery, creamy goodness.
The portion sizes are massive, so be careful not to over order, the vegetable selection looked amazing but we had no room left to try it.
This is a great local business, itās been located in Newbury since the 1080ās and you can see why itās been so successful and long lived, itās just brilliant, most...
