Wawin Vegan Chinese (York) — Restaurant in England

As the prices are around 50% more than my local takeaway which also gets a 4.5 score on Google I expected the food to be a notch above the rest, sadly not the case...... Sweet and sour tofu: sauce was watery and pretty tasteless, the tofu was rubbery and chewy, mostly accompanied by onion which was undercooked. Braised aubergine, maybe I didn't read the description well, was expecting a wider variety of veg in this dish, what I got was a container full of pieces of aubergine stuck together by a gelatinous sauce with a few bits of ginger and garlic, the taste was ok but its monotonous consistency was overwhelming. The sides of rice, chow mein and spring rolls were ok. I have eaten some combination of this meal probably 50 times, from 4 or 5 different places, this one compares badly to the rest. Ordered from Wawin many times in the past and recommended so many vegan friends to here. Genuinely thought it was the best takeaway in York. Last order a few weeks ago came and all of the vegan chicken pieces had an strong awful burned plastic flavour to them. Called and let Wawin know and the man on the phone mentioned a refund for the dishes. Got a call shortly later saying they'd actually have to pick the food up (I'm assuming to check we weren't trying to pull a sly one) to which we said sure not a problem. Two hours later we went to bed, no sign of a driver and no word from the restaurant since. Its not just the initial service that matters guys, its how you deal with customer compains. This review would've been 5 star, but DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY! Collection is a great idea, the food is nice and is usually ready as you arrive. However.... the past 2 times I've decided to have food delivered: first time food was over 2 hours late. Second time,we ordered food to be delivered around 11:30pm and it arrived around 9pm (2 hours early). We then rang and essentially said we had lied, when it's a technical error. Order to collect, don't get delivered. £4 delivery for it to be miles away from specified time is unbelievable.
