As a regular visitor to Bude I had never tried this place. I like to try and support independent businesses where I can so I decided to give this place a go having walked past it numerous times over the years. This particular time I was there on my own and was really craving some Chinese food, and rather than ordering from the usual three Chinese takeaways I thought I'd go in and see if they could cater for a single customer. The lady that greeted me was at first somewhat surprised that I was there on my own, but quickly set up a table for me outside (there are no outside tables, but I appreciated the welcoming and extra effort). Unfortunately, that's where the good experience stopped. The food was absolutely awful. Definitely not fresh ingredients. Definitely not authentic Chinese food. The chicken didn't look or taste like chicken. The selection of the 'buffet' was tiny. It took a long time for anything to be topped up, and some of it was never topped up the whole time I was there. There appeared to be only one person doing the 'cooking' and he was definitely wasn't Chinese. Cheap, bulk bought frozen ingredients for sure. It's a shame to have to leave such a negative review because the the lady was sweet but I have to be honest. If you don't care for quality then go scoff your face for £17.50 per head. Otherwise I honestly think you'd get better food from one of...
Read moreI can’t understand how this place has got so many 4/5 star reviews. Me and my girlfriend both had dinner here on 09/08/22. To start it off, we was sent all over town to try and get cash out because they didn’t accept card. “Not a huge inconvenience” I said to myself, but an inconvenience nonetheless. Customer service wise, there was only one woman serving around 5 tables of families, and she was very friendly I will say, but she was never around, and trying to get her attention to ask for drinks or the bill, was harder then trying to sell ice to an Eskimo. Then there’s the food. Taste-wise, it was pretty average. There was about 10 different foods you could choose from (4 of those was rice and noodles so treat yourself) and half the time there was food that needed replenishing. Oh and to top it all of, my girlfriend and I both got FOOD POISONING as a just 24hrs later we was both hugging the porcelain throne staring at the contents of our stomach’s. If all of these tickles your pickle, I definitely recommend Wei Chengs...
Read moreHaving read the reviews, we weren't quite sure what to expect. However, the food hygiene rating was 5, so we thought that was promising. We have to say, the place was spotless, even the loos. It was a Monday evening and very busy. We ended up sharing a table with a couple of strangers. But we had a nice chat with them over dinner. It was a pleasant evening. Now to the food. It is served as a buffet, not table service, but that was what we expected. The selection was varied, tasty and freshly cooked. It was also restocked throughout our stay. We very much enjoyed what we ate. The drinks menu included cornish ales, which was good to see, and they were competatively priced. Some of the bad reviews imply the good ones are fake. I can assure you tjis is genuine and that although I have visited Bude many times before, this is my first visit to Wei Chung's, and I have no relationship with the proprietor. This is a great little Chinese buffet, competatively priced, well prepared, and very clean. We...
