Evening dinner taken us to Harry’s restaurant after reading reviews online. A late dinner for us table booked at 9pm, we arrived 10minutes early and we were accommodated without fuss! Big plus point!
Very nice decor and restaurant was spacey yet felt quite warm and inviting. Staff were excellent with us.
Ordered starters of arancini and dusted calamari, the arancini was served with a truffle mayo and dusting of Parmesan cheese, these were delicious creamy, crunchy, cheesey, freshly made and you could tell. The rice was not dry and fillings kept within the arancini, I really enjoyed them! Great light bite! The calamari there was no lack of it! Plenty of the plate for 2 to share, and nice touch of serving the squid heads also not just the body! I rate that use it all! The tentacles always taste great! Calamari was lightly battered crispy but not overpowering the actually flavour of the squid.
I ordered a rump steak as a main and let’s start with best bit the meat!! - they source locally provided meat and say it’s farm to fork and it shows, I ordered my rump medium it arrived with a nice char across the beef and fats rendered down nicely that is how you do it! Sliced into beef and it melted like butter it was so smooth and delicate if you closed your eyes that could have been a filet steak! Seasoned well and good size steak, I was impressed I would say it wasn’t medium, more of a rare steak and could have been rested a touch longer as there was blood juices on my plate, but I’m ok with that. The fries dint sadly hit the same they crunchy outside but not a soft fluffy inner and no seasoning but fries are fries and when dipped in a classic béarnaise sauce you’re not complaining! That sauce was so fresh buttery, missed that acidity from vinegar but it was still very creamy and nice!
I personally had no room for dessert but someone tipped them off it was my birthday and they give me a FOC warm brownie with creme and that went down lovely!
In general I liked this place it had a bit of everything, not a huge menu but a solid menu, which we all know means the dishes have a higher standard! If you’re looking for a classy lunch or dinner get youreself down here you would be disappointed imo.
Side note - my partner had the Harry’s classic beef burger, and it dint quite live up to the steak dish, bun was over cooked and patty lacked seasoning and was dry. The dish became hard to eat and resulted to knife and fork for a burger!! But saved it with a creme brûlée, that was amazing and put smile on her face!
Overall rating for Harry’s - 8.5/10 solid score, some great food, clearly care about produce and what they serve and it shows! Some really good bits to those dishes and certainly...

Starter Dusted Calamari with Sweet Chilli Sauce. This dish was perfectly executed, featuring a beautifully crisp batter and a delightful sweet chilli sauce. The sauce was so delicious I could have enjoyed it straight from its charming serving pot.
Main Beef Lasagne with Red Wine Ragu, Barber’s Mature Cheddar Cheese Sauce, and Mixed Herb Salad. Lasagne is my all-time favourite dish, and this version did not disappoint. The flavour was extraordinary, with ample amounts of both meat and cheese sauce. Each bite left me wishing for more—a simple yet truly flavourful representation of classic Italian cuisine. The accompanying salad was also a highlight, dressed beautifully to complement the meal.
Sides Coleslaw: Light, refreshing, and a pleasant surprise for such a simple dish. Rock Fries with Truffle and Parmesan: These were exceptional. The truffle and parmesan added a luxurious touch, making them an irresistible indulgence. Macaroni Cheese: Comfort food at its finest creamy, rich, and wonderfully satisfying.
Dessert Choc ‘n’ Nut Cookie with Nutella, Hazelnuts, and Vanilla Ice Cream. This dessert was absolutely indulgent. The gooey and rich cookie was packed with chocolate and an abundance of hazelnuts, ensuring every spoonful was a delight. The generous inclusion of hazelnuts truly elevated the experience.
Overall Experience This was our first visit to Harry’s, and it will certainly not be our last. The food was outstanding, and the service was exceptional. A special mention goes to our waitress, who was professional, accommodating, and attentive.
The thoughtful addition of two adorable mince pies at the end made the bill even sweeter literally and figuratively.
Thank you, Harry’s and team, for a wonderful dining experience. We look forward to returning...
Read moreThis eatery was insanely good. It came with a very high rating on TripAdvisor and I cannot ratify that rating enough.
We (a party of 3) arrived without prebooking a table and were met with genuine manners and a willingness to accommodate. When given a choice of three tables we chose ours and sat down. It very quickly filled up on the other tables so we felt like it was a genuine choice of table and they were more than happy to cater.
The waitress was exceptionally polite, patient, good humoured and appropriate with her customer relations skills (I wish I could remember her name to thank her personally here!). The service was unhurried, prompt and expertly done.
We ordered our food after seeking recommendations, she was right, it was a large portion of nachos, and it promptly followed. One thing that often let's me down in other eateries is the temperature of the food. Not here, it was perfectly hot and super easy on the eye. Infact every other meal that was carried past our table looked more delicious than the last.
A final bit of banter and nice conversation from our hostess and the value for money bill and the, unusual for me, tip was paid.
Top marks to Harry's, you have got everything absolutely right from the customer point of view. I'm not sure when or if I'll ever visit Exeter again but if I do, you will be a sure stop. Thank you for showing us that quality food and service is...
