Popular, but lacking. The concept of Timepiece as its own community area with a large outdoor seating area, two-floor bar and two-floor club is admittedly quite unique and cool. I see why people are drawn in.
However, the ticket system is strange and inconvenient - it doesn't allow for spontaneity since you have to buy tickets online in advance. This can make it difficult to coordinate entry slots (each 30 minutes) with friends. That's if you even manage to get tickets before they sell out, which happens quickly. Furthermore, you have to pay an extra £5 cash on the door if you wish to go into the actual club when it opens. Only then do you receive a stamp that allows you to leave and re-enter the whole establishment. This can be annoying, since some of the online ticket slots are as early as 19:00, and the club doesn't open until after 21:00.
The drink prices are expensive, as expected from a club, although strangely they are cheaper in the "Old Timers" bar section than in the "Timepiece" section, despite it all being part of the same venue.
The whole place is decorated in an interesting, maximalistic way, but it is all visibly dirty. I understand you can't expect a club to be squeaky clean, but you could see mud and grime on all the floors and even the walls. You'd expect more from a place with such a reputation.
There are a few toilets located on the premises, but definitely not enough cubicles and sinks for women. The queue for each of the toilets takes forever to get through and stretches far out the door. Moreover, the taps and dryers are not guaranteed to work well or at all. One night, I applied soap and went to rinse it off, only to find that both taps in that ladies' room were not working. This was a nightmare, as my eczema-prone hands started to burn due to an unexpected allergic reaction to the soap, and I had no water to wash it off with. I spoke to a member of staff, who stated that the taps turn themselves off as the night goes on. Bear in mind that this was around 23:30 on a Friday night, and the club closes at 02:00. It's ridiculous that such a popular establishment couldn't (or wouldn't) even provide running water for people to wash their hands with, especially drunk people who are in close contact with others. Imagine the germs spreading!
On a more positive note, the music is enjoyable and mixed well. I would return for a themed night, but I'd have to be drunk beforehand to enjoy myself fully.
There's a lot of potential here, and a lot to improve on. I hope to see some...
Read moreHello all, Was my first night in exeter and most likely my last night due to the appalling behaviour of the staff at time piece. I was kicked out last night for allegedly being too drunk, granted i may have been at the time anyways, i was in a city i didnt know my friends were still inside and i tried to tell the bouncer this and his response was dont care and was very aggressive towards me. Anyways after about 30 mins of roaming the streets of Exeter I sobered up pretty quick. And a really kind lady helped me out she bought me back to the club to find my friends who were still inside because i had no one else. Anyways someone let me back in to find my friends i was looking around and the same bouncer met me with the same hostility, i tried to explain im just trying to find my friends he says im banned for life and says he doesnt care about my situation and practically throws me out. I am not an aggressive person even when i am drunk i normally just get really sleepy if ive had to much, but the hostility and rudeness from this man was unacceptable i understand he has a job to do but realistically last night i could have been killed on the streets of exeter if it wasn't for the kindness of strangers. Furthermore i tried to explain the situation to the woman at the door she was a larger woman with her hair in a pony tail and she met me with the same hostility and wouldnt even help me when i asked if there was somewhere i could wait until my friends came out! Was one of the least welcoming places i have ever been and i would never recommend this place due to the unkindly behaviour of the staff, i would severely reassess the people you hire because the treatment last night was appalling. Granted bar staff was lovely but door and bouncers i understand there job but they need to remember...
Read moreI am so disappointed. My 2 friends and I had an awful experience here on the 01 /11 and will not be returning. We purchased a 7-7:30 ticket and we arrived at 7:15 but low and behold the doors were locked with just a couple of people milling about outside so after waiting around but to no avail we left to go and get a drink elsewhere and return later on when we hoped they would open. When we returned there was an extremely confrontational and quite honestly nasty bouncer. She advised the ticket expired at 7:30 and was abrupt in telling us we would not be allowed in. She told us we should’ve hung around and waited for them to open and that all the bouncers were inside the (locked) doors. Despite all of this; by the time the place opened my friends ticket would of expired anyway, so we asked why they would even sell tickets for a time they weren’t even open for and the aggressive bouncer just stated they do not sell many of them therefore by admitting this suggested to us that from the get go we would be denied entry. Which is absolutely awful as it is a waste of money and after planning our whole night around it this just added insult to injury. Furthermore, when we returned she questioned why we would leave and advised it was not her problem!! I think it’s disgusting they sell tickets for a time they are not even open and then by the time they do open the ticket would’ve expired and been invalid and no use. The bouncer we dealt with was intimidating, lacking in any compassion or reason and to be completely honest, just vile. As a mellow and non-argumentative trio of girls her behaviour towards us was completely un called for and unfortunately just another additive to the power hungry security out there. Would not recommend this place at all unless they sort out their...
