Booked a Sunday lunchtime slot with a friend. We both had the slow roast beef. I had chosen this place because I was searching for somewhere for a roast dinner, where the meat wasn’t roasted, chilled, carved and reheated. We were not disappointed. The meat was fantastic, freshly cooked, melted in the mouth and the flavour was amazing. Staff said it was cooked for 12 hours. Obviously not rare but a cheaper cut, looked like a brisket which packs flavour. I love that sort of meat. A very generous portion too. The gravy was the best I had ever tasted in a restaurant for a Sunday lunch. Not a generic gravy but a rich dark gravy that totally reflected the meat flavour. The vegetables were beautifully cooked and plentiful. Carrots, parsnips, cabbage and creamy leeks. Staff were very helpful and accommodating. We asked for more gravy and more horseradish sauce and it was brought with a smile. It was simply the best roast dinner I have eaten in a restaurant in years. I don’t usually bother to write reviews but this was exceptional. The roast was 17.00 so not the cheapest around but well worth paying if you like good food. I had a sticky toffee pudding -which I didn’t need but couldn’t resist- which was also delicious. As a bonus it was a quiet building where I could hear myself speak, and hear what my friend was saying, which is so rare these days. A bit of me is reluctant to post this for fear of bookings going mad and me not being able to get a table next time but it deserves...
Read moreWe went for breakfast, it was ok. My partner has the full English and was still hungry after. It’s like £10, you get one sausage, one bacon, one toast etc. Not really what he was dreaming of when we’re going to spend a full day walking around the hilly places along the coast. I had the veggie breakfast which was weird. The scrambled eggs were really snotty, I know people like them like that but I prefer them cooked through. There was wilted spinach on it, which was unseasoned. There was a smashed avocado, then beans. There was too much ‘wet’ stuff and all combined just wasn’t very nice. Apart from the eggs (which is my preference) everything was cooked quite well, I just don’t think you get a lot for your money and the veggie breakfast...
Read moreCosy looking place with nice atmosphere. Nice terrace in the back for warmer days Good dishes that need a little oompf to make them great. We had the chicken burger and the baked eggs. Both were very basic and could use some more bold flavours. Jalapeño mayonnaise in bigger quantities on the chicken burger would do it good. And maybe some fresh and crispy leafs on there wouldn't hurt either. The baked eggs were tasty, but not very flavoursome. Dull I'd say. Some cumin and a bit of chili pepper would definitely lift it to a next level. We were also unlucky with only 2 beers of an extensive beer menu available. And it was quite stuffy inside as well, as it was warm outside. All in all not really a lunch experience to...
