If you used to go to this place before 2024 like my partner and I did, do what you can to avoid it. The restaurant is under new management, and they do not have any passion for the food that they cook. I ordered a calamari as a starter and a king prawn linguini as a main, and it is clear that the serving size has been almost halved. Under the old management, the calamari was served in giant rings, with a soft and crispy batter that came with a large serving of fresh aoli. I was instead served 5 small & assorted pieces of calamari that could just about break your teeth, with a dash of aoli underneath it. The linguini, although I had never had it under the old establishment, was essentially a private pool for the king prawns that inhabited it. Instead of being given a deep bowl like the old management would have for pasta, I was presented with a shallow dish and small serving of pasta with way too much sauce. I would also like to note the dilapidated atmosphere of the restaurant. Instead of playing the radio or a playlist out of their speakers, they played the same two songs on repeat - by the end of our two-hour session, I felt as if an attempt was made to torture me. The table layout is incredibly sparse and inefficient, the decorations in the joint do not belong in a bistro and the paint on the walls is cracked and peeling in some corners. When you order Italian food, you generally expect hand-grated parmigano reggiano on your pasta and a giant, unweildy pepper grinder, all handled by table service. Under new management, you should be aware that the belle vue bistro will do exactly none of this. Some other highlights from guests at my table include "Garlic butter" which was literally a clove of garlic, partially grated, with butter and fries that had to be sent back to actually be fried (they were soggy and malleable, you could get a better burger and fries from wetherspoons). Overall, I question why this establishment even continues to call it a "bistro" when the food is inauthentic and store-brought. I would avoid at all costs, and would absolutely...
Read moreGo to the Belle Vue Bistro if you like long wait times and disappointing food. Its a stretch to call it an Italian now its has changed owners - honestly it's a shame, it used to be so lovely.
When we arrived and ordered at the restaurant it only had 2 other tables yet it took them 50 minutes to bring out our starters.... And over 30 mins for our drinks. You could see frustration on other peoples faces as it took forever for food and drink to arrive, kids were bored and so were their families, you could see they just wanted to leave. Yikes. (For a rough time scale scale we arrived at 7:15 and left at 9)
The food wasn't great, their idea of garlic butter was butter with chunks of garlic put on top to compliment their burnt dough balls. The calamari was cooked right from frozen and was extremely bland.
The mains were even more disappointing with soggy chips (which we sent back and they still weren't great) and a dry burger, the pasta with prawns was drenched in a watery white sauce and the pesto pasta might as well of been cheese pasta dyed green!
They also had 2 songs on loop and it was honestly not good music either - think the default stereotypical posh music performed on a violin on loop... Yeah it was not fun.
Overall it was honestly such a dreadful experience. My family left pretty unsatisfied and I was left shocked of how bad the service and the food had become. Safe to say the price isn't worth it. I wouldn't recommend...
Read moreCame in last week with a booking requesting Gluten free as the options here used to be incredible with the previous owners and I suffer from Coeliac Disease. Upon booking they did not state that there would be any issues. When we asked about the gluten free menu, the waitress told us that they are “not doing gluten free today” which was confusing and disappointing. We told the waitress that we stated we are gluten free on the booking, so the waitress spoke to the chef and told us that they can do something gluten free but it will be an extra 15 minute wait (I assume for them to run to Tesco to get pasta) 😂
Whilst there, around 5/6 tables of people left due to the slow service. Every other table of people were looking at each other in disbelief of the lack of service. In all, we were there for 2 hours. We asked the waitress for the bill, waited 30 minutes and a different waiter asked if he could help us to which he gave us the bill straight away and apologised.
I thought that this place was wonderful before. But now - lack of knowledge, lacklustre service, food was not bad but I’m not entirely convinced it was safe. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt that maybe they just couldn’t cope with a busy day but after seeing another person make a review about the gluten free situation a few days later, I thought it would hopefully be noticed by someone in the same...
