I wish to make a complaint about your door staff from last night.

Was on a night out with friends and was enjoying your pub up until this point, walked out to get some air my friends were inside. The door man saw me leave but would not let me in two moments later. He said I had too much to drink when I was clearly calmly explaining I was fine he had just seen me come out and my friends were inside I explained my friends were in there and couldn't contact them he still smugly refused and said his decision is final. This left me separated from my friends and leaving me potentially having to walk home in a town I don't know alone in a town I don't know in the early hours of the morning?

Would they do this to a lady and seprecate her from her friends?

This just encurages trouble and unfortunately ruined a perfectly good night I won't be coming back to your pub and I suggest you think about the door staff you hire.

If something would have happened to me on the way home it would be down to their poor judgment and arrogant attitude. I am not a aggressive person and unthreatening I am not big or thick set maybe my face didn't fit but this again put a sour note onto my evening.

Yours...

Being a family with 4 children and a dog after looking at various options and reviews The Black Lion looked to tick all the boxes. Unfortunately we were left very disappointed. After a 3 mile walk from Portslade we were well ready for a nice meal. On arrival and sitting down everything was done through an app which was fine and understandable. When the drinks arrived I had to ask for the pint of coke to be filled up as it was only 3/4s full and all the other drinks were 70% Ice. The pub wasn't overly busy but we then had to wait 50mins for the food to arrive. When it did the it was only just about warm. All the chips even the kids were heavily salted which I would suggest isn't the best on a kids meal. Burgers were over cooked and near on cold. All served on tin plates which wouldn't have been a problem had they not been chipped and in this current climate didn't fill me with confidence that they were clean. Having paid up front on the app and having 4 very hungry kids we ate what we were given. When I bought it up with the guy waiting our table he simply said "sorry about that" and that was it. Overall a massive waste of 80 quid and very...

Very unusual looking building that certainly catches your eye .

The menu looks appealing but falls a bit short when it comes to the food .

The burger was nicely presented but far to greasy to truly enjoy. The sausage and mash with (buttered greens) was basically overcooked sausage very dry mash and a pile of savoy cabbage that didn't seem like it had seen water let alone butter. When the food was brought to the table the waitress actually mumbled what sounded like "good luck" at the time i didn't quite get it. But it all made sense once we began eating.

The place itself has a cool vibe to it and i can definitely see it being a popular evening venue.

The Guinness was cold and smooth 👌

The staff was a bit of mix the bar which had 3 staff members present but only one seemed to be serving the four people waiting to order . The very bubbly colourful character who was serving was very polite and attentive while the two ladies at the end of the bar seemed more interested in there own conversation........i was not the only one to notice this as the woman beside me made comment.

I would definitely revist this place when next in town but...

We had our cousins visiting, and as we planned a trip to Brighton on Sunday, we spent quite some time choosing the right place for the perfect Sunday roast. The location is very convenient and away from heavy traffic. There are plenty of seating options inside and either at the front street terrace or in the back in a more private and cosy garden. The roasts were tasty and up to standard. But the brie, cranberry and pork stuffing was raw in the middle. The food and drinks also took 30 minutes to come out, which was quite disappointing, especially since it wasn't busy. The staff behind the bar were nice. Bathrooms seemed looked after. Giving a benefit of the doubt I only dropped 1 star as I would not be opposed to return, hoping we were just unlucky with the long wait, as well as believing that if we asked for having the stuffing recooked, the staff would do so.

Very disappointed booked for roast dinner with my Brighton friends as had come from Edinburgh. The reviews here seemed pretty good unfortunately not on this day. We waited over 40 mins for our dinner which we were advised would be the case but when it arrived it was very Luke warm the roast potatoes were hard and chewy the kale was so chewy it was indigestible. The meat and gravy were tasty bust just to cold. 3 meat dinners were not consumed however the vegetarian option was enjoyed by my friend but also not hot.Staff seemed totally stretched but we were offered another meal but by this time we were no longer in the mood to wait for it. We were only offered one meal free and a child's priced meal which was not cheap at £9.50. We payed £10 each for food we didn't eat. Maybe on another day could be different just wasn't a good experience for us.
