At breakfast I find generally polite staff serving good quality food. As a patient, a trip to the restaurant is a positive way to start the day and to get moving.
This is where the positive points end. At lunch time the food is unappetising with very few options. If, then for example, you were to ask if there are going to be any more chips, the answer is simply 'no'. You can choose from whatever remains, most of which is dried out and tastes bad.
From lunch time onwards the staff are absent or, when present, will be disinterested and rude. As I've said, from lunch time onwards the food is trash.
Years ago Leicester General Hospital stopped offering a 24/7 food service. The LRI now does, and this should be a godsend for patients that struggle sleeping, eat at irregular times while unwell, or for worried relatives who manage to pull thselves away from their sick relative long enough to look after their own needs for a moment.
Sadly the food at night is the same as the lunch and dinner food... Utter trash.
UHL really underestimates the importance of having quality cooked food available 24/7.
The sandwiches alone are worthy of their own one...
Read moreUsually, when someone says hospital restaurant, the first thing that comes to mind is bad food. I can assure you that is not the case with this one, and I encourage you to try for yourself. I had a chance to visit LEat and enjoy some of their tasty, full of flavours and well prepared food in my case piri piri chicken wrap with salad and piri piri mayonnaise, portion of chips and can of cola. But if you are not a fan of my choice, there is something for everybody from pizza stalls with different varieties to street food stalls with different options to the salad bar. The prices are not as expensive too in my case it cost me 5.60 £ but there is a meal deal option for 4.50 as advertised on their board or 2.50£ for a wrap. And don't worry if you can't make your choice just speak to one of the staff and they will attend your needs as they...
Read moreTwo main food establishments. A hot food canteen serves the usual hospital restaurant fare. The Starbucks-clone coffeeshop nextdoor serves hot drinks as well as high end (and definitely high price) sandwiches, snacks and cold drinks. Shortened opening times unfortunately. Plenty of seating in several areas including a children's area. Light and airy thanks to a kind of conservatory in the seating area. Busy, and not always the cleanest -- recently there was a nasty smelling liquid leak from the ceiling which was cordoned off in the middle of the restaurant. All in all, average at best for a...
