Replying to @eky Noodle Plus 🍜 🥢 📍191 Newland Ave, Hull HU5 2EN I’d seen Noodle Plus all over my social media and was intrigued to find that Hull now has a Halal Oriental Restaurant! They offer a variety of Halal Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese dishes. For the full experience, I decided to visit in person. A recommendation in the comments gave me the confidence to go! Believe it or not, even before I reverted, I’d never had oriental cuisine or a typical ‘Chinese,’ so this was a first for me. Roast Duck with Pineapple 🦆🍍 The duck had a nice taste, though it was a bit fatty but chewy in a good way. The sweet, tangy pineapple sauce added a tropical hint to the meat. Red and green peppers, as well as red onions, complemented the dish, and the warm pineapple was surprisingly pleasant. However, I felt the portion of duck was small for a main course, making it less filling. At £15.95 on non-half-price days, I don’t think it’s worth the cost. Overall tasty but better on half-price days! 7.5/10 Egg Fried Rice 🍚 The rice had a strong egg flavor with a good texture. I liked the hints of carrot, red onion, and spring onion. At £4.45 full price, I’m unsure if it’s worth it, but it’s a solid dish. 8/10 Steamed Egg Custard Bun The exterior was like sweet bread, warm and fluffy, with a soft vanilla-sweet custard filling. The flavor was authentically oriental, but the buns were small, and the filling could’ve been more generous. At £6.95 on a non-half-price day, I’d say it’s overpriced. 6/10 Prawn Crackers 🍤 I appreciated that these were complimentary. They had a light texture that dissolved in the mouth with a nice crunch. 8/10 Bangkok Style Chicken Wings 🍗 These wings were crispy, with meat that fell off the bone. The batter had a subtle oily taste that complemented the chicken. While I’d have preferred seasoning on the meat, the accompanying fish sauce added a tangy flavor. Spring onions were a nice touch, enhancing the flavor when dipped. 8/10 Egg Noodles 🥚 🍜 The noodles had a subtle oily taste and strong egg flavor. I liked the small pieces of carrot and spring onion mixed in. Simple yet satisfying. 8/10 Kung Po You can choose prawn, duck, chicken, or tofu for this dish, I opted for beef! The tender beef was coated in a rich sauce reminiscent of soy sauce and seasoning. It was delicious but served piping hot, I burnt my tongue on the first bite! The dish was generous with beef (likely as it’s economical) and included nuts, baby corn, carrots, onions, peppers, and a hint of chili. Most vegetables were soft, but the nuts were slightly overpowered by the sauce. This dish costs £10.95 outside the lunch menu, but I got it as part of a lunch combo for £13.95. While tasty, I don’t think the portion is worth £10.95 on its own. 8/10 Overall: 7.5/10 I love that Hull has an option for Halal Oriental cuisine. The food was tasty and authentic, and the service was lovely, staff regularly checked to ensure I was enjoying my meal. It can feel pricey outside the half-price evenings after 4 pm or the lunch menu (1–4 pm). I recommend taking advantage of these deals or cash-only 50% off days, even if the menu is more limited. If you’re expecting British Chinese takeaway-style portions, this is different, it’s more about single-serve dishes for the price. Overall, I had a lovely experience and appreciate that Hull offers such authentic flavors. Masha’Allah! #hullhalalhub #moonlightempr3ss #halal #halalfood #muslimtiktok #kingstonuponhull #hullcity #muslimrevert #muslim #islam #foryou #hull

A poor excuse of a Chinese As soon as we arrive we open the door and see absolutely no one (I know this is not a Michelin star restaurant but we were left in an awkward limbo). I then mustered up the courage to ring a little bell they have by the front and a man finally showed up to sit us down. We then got sat on a little table by the front door, from which multiple people came in and out constantly, so we were getting a strong gust of wind into our faces every 5minutes. After all of this, I tried to stay positive, as usually dingier places have the best food. But as I was gonna find out, this was not true. We ordered chicken and prawn wontons as a starter and they were the most disappointing pieces of food I’ve ever had. Firstly they were 5 quid for 4 thumb sized prices, and then they were extremely bland and came with a watery sweet and sour sauce that was also bland. After these we got our mains, can’t forget to mention that we had to ask for our drinks as they had forgotten to bring them with the starters and forgot what we had ordered. The mains quality wise were terrible the egg fried rice was cold and bland, the wok fried noodles with beef came with 4 pieces of very low quality chewy beef and the chicken peaking came with also almost no chicken. I found that this place is extremely stingy with portion sizes and give very little in the protein department. At the end of our meal I went up to pay and I wanted to say my problems to the person at the front, however one of the other workers sat there looking menacingly at me and my Mrs as we were asking about the wontons, and how many you are meant to get. Due to that I couldn’t state my problems. In conclusion, terrible place will never be going there again I don’t know how you can mess up Chinese this bad. And to add to that, the stingiest portions and a severe lack of protein and quality. Utter trash. Note: in the picture Mrs had eaten one of the miniature wontons

My wife, I, and stepdaughter visited yesterday (Wednesday) to see what this was like whilst getting a 50% discount. I'm not a fan of Chinese style food as I find it all pretty much the same, bland and expensive for what it is. Also, there's a lower review raising the concern about undercooked food. Well, DON'T worry about any of that. We got there early, so we had a choice of seating. The interior is very pleasant and the main man friendly and helpful. It's under new management with a wider range of cuisine. Obviously, for the 50% deal, it's a restricted menu but still offers a wide range of food. We ordered Bankok wings, chicken & prawn wonton, chicken spring rolls & prawn crackers for a starter. There were 6 of each item served in trays, each with a mild sweet (not too sweet) chilli sauce. These were scorching hot, fully cooked, and mighty tasty. We were well surprised. Next, I had the Thai jungle curry (hot), and the wife had Pad Thai with ribbon noodles. My step daughter had beef & onion sizzler. My word, we had a heap of food. As we sampled each other's, like you do, we discovered each had unique tastes and levels of heat. Mine was up with a madras/vindaloo heat. All served very hot, cooked to order, we could hear the wok banging away in the back, and so tasty. What a major change from a Chinese takeout this was. In fact, nothing like one. I've been to Malaysia, and this restaurants food took me right back there. They serve non alcoholic drinks at the mo. You can take your own, so we took a box of wine, beers, and ciders. The waiter brought us a bottle opener and glasses of ice when we asked. It's cash only, but there's an ATM 100 meters up the road by a Tesco express. We will most definitely be back to try the full menu and the 50% deal again. For the 3 of us plus a nice tip, we were £40. Seriously worth a visit, you'll be glad you did.
