I recently visited Roots Rum and Shack on a Thursday evening with a few of my old coursemates, and it was such a vibe from start to finish! First of all, Thursday is definitely the day to go they offer half-price food, which was the perfect excuse for us to indulge a little more. We ordered a mix of dishes to share and everything exceeded our expectations. The platter was a great starter to get a little bit of everything, but the real stars for me were the rice & peas with sauce, the soft, flavourful oxtails, and the absolute showstopper: the grilled chicken wings with their special Havana sauce seriously some of the best wings I’ve had in a long time. We also had a couple of cocktails and let me tell you ,they were banging! Super tasty, well-balanced, and definitely added to the whole experience. The atmosphere was lit — good energy, friendly staff, and great background music that set the perfect tone for a chilled evening with friends. We were able to catch up, eat amazing food, and just enjoy the whole vibe. If you’re looking for somewhere in town with proper Caribbean flavour, good drinks, and a fun atmosphere definitely check out Roots Rum and Shack, especially on a Thursday!

Took the wife and kids, it was busy night as there was a live music session on and it was Notting Hill carnival weekend . The atmosphere was lively and the vibes was good. They gave us a table upstairs away from the bar, the food was delicious and came in excellent time with plantains and rice and peas cooked to perfection. Decor was properly authentic and resembled the Carribeans style very closely. Great food and very good tentative service. Wouldn’t recommend it for very young children after 6/7pm as it becomes a rocking bar but 100% recommend a visit here for food rum and vibes

Excellent read some good reviews about it when we went it was better than expected nice quirky place good decor and plenty to look at . It's not the biggest place so it gets busy very quickly definitely need to book if going . The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to accommodate you quick service not the biggest choice on the menu but foods really good and hot nice portions. Plenty of cocktails to choose from they are even better than the food. There a few big tables so can get a few round them definitely going back

Our visit to Roots was a delightful experience.

The food options on the menu were excellent. My partner and I ordered the jerk salmon and the jerk trinidadian chicken respectively. The jerk salmon usually comes with one of two sauces but they gave us both which was a huge plus!

The jerk trinidadian chicken was amazing, it comes with their jerk bbq sauce and, considering I'm not usually one for bbq sauce, it was absolutely amazing, a perfect balance of tang and spice.

The jerk salmon was very good as well, a grilled flavour combined with both of the sauces having two very strong differing flavours; with one being strong, spicy and aromatic and the other being rich and creamy.

Both of our mains came with house fries which were very good considering fries are quite basic - seasoned very well and nice and crispy.

Our waiter/bartender was a cool guy, took care of us all night and made sure we were enjoying the food and that our drinks weren't getting too empty.

We went on a Monday, which offers a 2-4-1 on certain cocktails. To put it lightly my partner and I took full advantage of this lol. We ordered a decent variety of drinks and all of them were amazing.

Go here, and have a...

Absolutely disgusting behaviour from the owner tonight. As I approached tonight to take my 3 son's one of there girlfriend and one of there friend's witch bearing in mind is autistic (and he turned up on his motorcycle). I was some what behind them and the owner was stood out side with his dog. I witness the manager talking down to them as he thought that the motorcycle was pinched !!! Bearing in mind the lad was in his full motorcycle clothing but ran up with my 14yr old son. As I approached he started to tell me this at witch point he started to say to the lad with autism get down the alleyway and then said the same to my 18yr old son. At witch point I had to step in. Then he started to say to us all that he would take us all down the alleyway. To be honest the behaviour of this from a restaurant owner was disgusting all because they ran up with a motorcycle. If this is not judgemental then I don't know what is. This guy literally tried to pick on kids (young adults) as I don't belive he would try that with a few adults. This place needs avoiding at all...
