THIRD PLACE

During a road trip around the whole of Cornwall we took it upon ourselves to track down the BEST Cornish pasties, the St Ives Bakery was being advertised online as being the best of the best so we had to try them. Obviously having to taste the original pastie they have to offer which came in two forms either old school short crust or flakey pastry. The old school short crust pasty was well salted maybe a little bit too much for some but I personally found the salt level to be good overall it was an ok pasty but unfortunately it was just that, ok The flakey pasty was a bit different, I quite liked the chewiness it had but unfortunately the pastry wasn’t salted at all and we all found the pasty to be pretty bland.

Overall on our list of Beat Cornish Pasties we ranked the St Ives Bakery in Third place. We were let down as the hype of the place online was so great and articles had been written about how amazing it was. It was definitely above average but unfortunately the lack in flavour and seasoning...

The only reason I am giving this bakery a 2 stars and not a 1 is because the pasty that we had was really nice… otherwise, the rudeness of the staff would have definitely left me no alternative but to leave a 1 star!

We went in to order a pasty having seen the reviews that they had had before coming to St Ives on holiday to be told that they were still in the oven and to come back in 20 mins, which is understandable and we did exactly that. When we came back in, I asked for 2x flaky steak pasties. The girl behind the counter said that they didn’t have any flaky ones ready so I asked if I could pay for them and wait outside to which a man behind the counter very rudely interrupted and said ‘no we’re not doing that, just have a shortcrust one they’re exactly the same!’ He was so sharp with me I was taken aback and didn’t know what to say! No need for downright rudeness when people are on their holidays! Wouldn’t go back.

We also had brownies that...

All i can say is a visit to St Ives Bakery will now be an event added to my calendar (frequency as many as possible) the sole purpose being a cruffin run. I should say though that the shop looks amazing with lots of baked goods. Photos of the shop front already do it justice. However i am purely commenting here about cruffin. What is a cruffin you may ask. Well apart from it being something i plan to eat a great many of its a muffin shaped sweet croissant these one being filed with jam and custard. They are huge delicious juicy scrumptious and now something i feel very passionate about. Just sorry i don’t live above the bakery. Anyway they are a must try and you may fancy a loaf or a scone too. Just make sure you have a decent cloth to catch all the ooziness from them. Bad photo just Didnt take any of the first one I ate overlooking the cliffs out towards Pendeen at lunch. The added picture is my supper...

Really wanted to try a locally made cornish pasty so tried this place. First of all, the smell from the ovens was amazing! We had to queue for about 5 minutes as its really busy and they were struggling to bake quick enough to satisfy demand. The staff were polite, the range of food on offer is good and it looks hand made, not like mass produced. The bakery counter is small and I'm not sure if it had seating, but we ate on the beach. The pasties were big for the kids, but enough for me lol The sausage roll was decent too. The cruffin was massive, it's like a dougnut pastry, but a little crispy on the outside filled with jam and maybe custard, get one anyway, they're ace, but you might want to share! Prices are what's to be expected in a tourist area and obviously zero parking here lol Highly recommended 👌

St. Ives Bakery .... I mean WOW! The smell alone is enough. No directions required to this place as soon as your arrive your nose will direct exactly to the front door. I opted for the flakey steak Cornish pasty. Stalked by a mass mob of seagulls I wasn’t going to hand over the goods anytime soon. You can’t visit Cornwall and not get a Cornish pasty. The filling was a perfect pocket of happiness. The steak tender. My only criticism is I couldn’t eat it quick enough as it was served immediately hot out of the oven. These pasties fly off the shelves ... and also out of people’s hands. I would urge people to find a safe space to enjoy the Cornish delicacy. Of course I also had the rocky road chocolate dessert. So tasty. I regret now buying enough to take home and share the experience with friends.
