So we had some small issues with this place so I’m going to get those out of the way first before I sing their praises, we placed a booking, arrived on time to be told that we may not be able to order food because it was too late, baring in mind we chose a 9:15pm time slot when there was options to book in at 11pm on the booking system, they were able to get us in to order but we were told we would have to do it quickly, not a problem for us because we had looked at the menu before and had decided already. We were sat down and told a large amount of the menu was unavailable, luckily what we wanted was still available so again, a non issue. There is a hidden 10% service charge which I think legally has to be disclosed before you agree to order, but I had read the reviews and had expected this anyway. One of the servers hardly gave us the time of day, we saw them serving other larger tables asking for drink orders and interacting with customers, they came over and asked if we’d like a drink, we asked them if they could come back to us in two minutes to allow us time to decide, they never came back so I got up and went and order at the bar. I do want to say she was really good at interacting with other customers, just not us on this occasion. There are so many amazing members of staff, notably the male member of staff behind the bar, he made us feel like nothing was too much trouble and really made us feel really welcomed, the lady who bought our food to us and cleared our plates was a star also! Both of them are absolutely brilliant at what they do and made the 10% service charge feel absolutely worth it for us. It’s is a beautifully decorated restaurant, you can tell the owners really love the place. The food was presented so beautifully, cocktails were delicious, I’d highly recommend the Mai Thai! Our food overall was really nice, it was very filling and very nicely executed, my partner and I had to add salt to all the food we had but I suppose that’s down to personal preference. Great quality ingredients, a very reasonable price, and just a really lovely experience all in all! We’d absolutely come back here and would recommend to anybody...
Read moreImpressive looking place, though after a long drive down on the Saturday and long day on the Sunday we wanted to enjoy a nice meal. We were enjoying to local area and had been on a long walk on the coastal path, so was just before 9pm and we noticed Reef and Beef closed at 10pm so we thought perfect we will eat there. We walked in last Sunday 08/06 at approx 8:50pm, we had not booked but did no way expect what happened next. We went to the bar and the place looked empty (maybe 2-3 tables with people on) someone came to us after 5 mins standing at the bar to whom we asked do you have a table? His immediate reply was have you booked? We said no to which he tutted at us. He then continued to the kitchen without explaining what he was doing, a few more minutes later he came out and said the chief says no more orders.
This wasn’t the first impression we had hoped for but certainly a lasting one. We went a short walk to ardor, who also closed at 10 but at 9:15 welcomed us in with no booking. The service was incredible, really kind staff who genuinely wanted to help not look down and tutt at you. Conscious of the time we wanted to not keep them but they came to us after our meal but they assured us this was fine and to take our time.
Conclusion skip reef n beef and go to Ardor if you want a nice meal out.
In response to owners reply, date is now amended to show the correct date of our visit. I note you avoided the rude welcome we received from your staff?
You are correct in that we did not dine there, but given the attitude of the first member of staff we see when we walked in can you blame us?
I will not retract my review, there is no lie here. Please just take it on the chin...
Read moreWe ate here on the last night of our trip and this was our least favourite. The minute i walked down the stairs I immediately got that gut feeling that I should turn around and head back up. However, we decided to stick with it as it would be difficult to get in elsewhere without a booking. The decor was a bit dated and all over the place in terms of the theme. I believe its recently changed ownership and name and it's Trip Advisor ranking is based on it's previous iteration.
I ordered the Chorizo burger which came with chips, it was OK and reasonably priced. The alarm bells started ringing about how much of a speciality place this was when my dining companion asked if they did a fillet steak, which they didn't, fair enough it's not on the menu, but when asked, 'what out of the 3 steaks is closest to a fillet, the server didn't know'. She decided to go for the Lobster which was a substantial size, she said it was OK but it was a bit chewy. My other friend got the Ribeye steak which was cooked to his liking, but he described as OK, they're was a fair bit of fatty, chewy bits left on his plate. The two kids shared a burger which they enjoyed and nuggets, which looked homemade, but they described as OK.
The service was friendly enough, but the two servers seem a bit overstretched when the place started to fill up.
I wouldn't go back as there's too much better competition in and...
