Last night I was assaulted by another patron in the garden area - afterwards they made false accusations to security saying that I had assaulted them. Purely on the basis of my gender and stature, security told me to leave and ejected me from the venue. Outside the front I was speaking to a security staff when the same man and his friends left and the guy attempted to assault me. Thankfully security staff stepped in and stopped it. I just spoke to the manager who put the phone down on me, but not before stating that I was rightfully ejected because I'm a male and accusations against men are more likely to be true. He refused to review the CCTV footage or take any further action. I'm absolutely disgusted with the behaviour of the security staff and manager - as a man, anyone can make an accusation against you and the staff will automatically side with the other person without any evidence.
Reply to Chris, the manager
Actually Chris, you said that you wouldn't be investigating it any further. In addition, our conversation hasn't been misrepresented and I recorded the entire call.
As you would have clearly seen, he approached me and placed his hand on me in the smoking area - at this point the false accusations were made to security and I was wrongfully ejected.
He then approached me outside the front while I was discussing the matter with security and became aggressive for a second time to the point of your security staff having to intervene.
You clearly have more interest in protecting your licence than taking action against any wrongdoing committed by your staff and other patrons.
To use your train of thought, anyone could accuse another person of assault or aggressive behaviour, for instance. On that basis you accept that it happened as truth without any evidence and eject the accussed. In this case I was the victim in three counts 1) he assaulted me 2) I had false allegations made against me 3) I was wrongfully removed by your...
Read moreI don’t ever complain about things but I feel I need to address this. My friends and I turned up to your establishment last night as a hen do, and got turned away which I understand as you don’t accept hen dos. We then ordered two Ubers, and once one arrived, half of the group (including the hen) left. Me, along with three other friends, asked the bouncer on the door politely, could we please come in for a shot before our taxi arrives. He agreed, but as my friends entered, I politely said ‘Thankyou, we only want a shot and we will leave as our taxi is due in 5 mins.’ To which he got quite rude and abrupt with me, looked down at me with disgust and said ‘you all better be out soon, and if your friends do turn up, I’ll make sure I find every single one of you and kick you out.’ He said this very aggressively may I add, which I was very taken aback by because I was so polite. He made me feel extremely uncomfortable and very intimidated by his presence and tone of voice. Baring in mind this bouncer was a lot taller than me, bigger posture. He had dark hair and a thick beard (just for reference). When we had the shot, we left straight away, as promised. My friend then approached the bouncer, again, gently spoken, to which he was greeted with a very aggressive response. My friend just wanted to say how he didn’t appreciate the way I was spoken to before we entered the bar. To which the bouncer replied with ‘back down little boy’ which I found utterly disgusting and completely un called for. He continued to show a very passive aggressive manner towards us. I’m glad the taxi arrived when it did! It was such a shame to experience this on our last night. The establishment inside looked brilliant may I add. Just cannot process the experience I had with one of...
Read moreI visited on Sunday afternoon just gone with my girlfriend and our Bulldog, Layla. It was my partners first time in Brighton, but I had been many years previously.
And WOW!! What a difference!! I always loved Charles Street back in the '10's but it has clearly had a refurbishment since then!! The decor is beautiful and modern, without being too 'hipster', and it has a very chilled out and relaxed vibe to it.
I love a craft beer and was pleased to see that the new 'Charles Street' had moved with the times and had plenty to choose from. Lisa likes a gin and was recommended a lovely new gin that she had not tried before, which was apparently their new monthly gin. I forget the name now, but if you're going this month, do ask them about it.
We're a lover of a roast dinner, and theirs did not disappoint. Lovely roasties and veg, and the pork was to die for. Highly recommended by both of us and Layla who, of course, had to have a little taste to check if it was ok ;)
All COVID regulations were adhered to and we felt safer here than we did in many other venues in Brighton.
It should as well be mentioned that we were very well looked after by the staff on our visit, they could not do enough for us, and adapted to table service exceptionally well. I recognise a couple from a few years ago on my last visit, so this proves what a solidly-run business this must be.
So, all in all, well done Charles Street TAP. I loved you when I lived there, and I adore you now... I shall see you next time we venture down from the...
