Small and I mean small micro with too loud dance music and expensive beers £4.40 for theakstons XB old peculiar was £5.00 a pint and it wasn't that much at the brewèry earlier this year when I went twice cashing in a bit on the staycation scene me thinks... OK had a reply from the owner don't seem to be able to reply to their lengthy repost .. so firstly no need to take the attitude with me secondly I know its a micro bar I wasn't saying how small it was in a bad in fact on a good way just even as micro bars go it is small ..which is nice.. old peculiar from the wood again I understand the difference its from the wood at the brewery and it was I'm afraid not as expensive as yours (and Masham isn't 'hundreds of miles' from Whitby about 50) the music was dance music you had a radio station playing after listening to music since 1975 I know what so called dance music is the average price in whitby is as you say probably about £4 maybe just over but if its anything like the lakes you all agree on a price at the seasons start so no one is unfairly selling cheap again I understand .. Still think its a bit high I was going to my local micro all through the pandemic supporting them at between £2.80 and £3.40 a pint depending on abv you obviously haven't read all my reviews as you'd see there's a lot of positive ones I'm honest but it's only MY honest opinion.. i actually like your place just a few things well two actually came to my attention so I say how it is.. for me..I think whitby in general has gone a bit downhill a bit like a mini blackpool (and that is a cack hole) I've been visiting since about 1977 sorry to reply publicly like this but can't seem to do it any other way if after you read this and hopefully take my reply on board I'll...
Read moreWe have visited a few times and thought there was something off about the owners as they seemed quite rude but gave them the benefit of the doubt. But our latest visit will be our last as the owners are simply rude and unwelcoming. You go into the pub really on edge and like a burden. They definitely need some lessons in hospitality and customer service. They claim to be dog friendly but so would say that they are dog tolerant. On a previous visit, one lady came into the bar and asked a valid question about one of the beers only to be ridiculed and after she left the bar, the owners continued to make fun of her in front of customers. Our latest visit we asked simply if children were allowed in as it was early afternoon, rather than saying “no, sorry we don’t allow under 18s” we just got an abrupt “nah” . If children aren’t allowed in that’s absolutely fine and valid, it’s your business and your rules and we respect that, but it really isn’t hard to just be nice in the way you...
Read moreA small quirky microbar situated right on the harbour front. A rough and ready bar with attitude. Limited seating downstairs but more upstairs although I can't comment as I didn't look. Some unusual beers not seen elsewhere, my partner had the Blueberry which was actually blue in colour! He described it as interesting, and although it wasn't to his taste he said that it was brewed well. I had a Eaton Mess gin and it was delicious. They advertise a large selection of gins, can't remember the actual number, but lots. They have also chalked on a black beam all the owners of the property since it was built in the 1800s and what it was used for, very interesting. Although it's very small there an air conditioning unit which will be needed on sunny days. Also the seats are quite high but they provide 'one steps' to help you up and save your legs dangling, very novel...
