To celebrate my birthday, we decided to go somewhere not too far from London - as we did not want to embark on a long drive - soak in the local ambience, and have a restaurant meal before returning to London. We decided to go to Leigh-on-Sea. We stumbled on this gem of a place by chance; there was one free parking space available so we parked there. We then walked down the street and came across The Sand Bar. We decided to give it a try. From the minute we walked in, we were cloaked in warmth: the staff was very welcoming. The food was delightful: I had prawn and crayfish, lamb rump - which was cooked the way I requested - and mixed vegetables. My husband had crispy duck for his first course and fish and chips for his main. We liked the meal so much, we ordered a takeaway for our daughter. After the meal, I told them that it was my 21st? birthday 🤣. I was pleasantly surprised when a piece of chocolate and fruit cake was delivered to our table with happy birthday lovingly written on the plate. They even played Stevie Wonder's Happy Bithday for me! I really cannot recommend them enough. Many thanks...
Read moreWe went here as a group of 10 for our birthdays. It had been recommended to us by several friends. I was expecting great things, and we weren't disappointed! The service was perfect, with our waiter regularly popping over to keep our drinks topped up,and give us his expert opinion on the menu.
We were seated upstairs, but the live music fro. The bar downstairs could still be heard which was brilliant.
We finished our meal and then headed down to the bar to enjoy some more drinks and the music.
Such a great night was had by everyone.
It was on the expensive side, but you certainly get what you pay for here, it was worth...

Just a hopefully helpful tip to the chef, starchy potatoes are best for mash, roast and chips as they have a low moisture content and produce a fluffy end product, waxy potatoes are for potato salads, gratins and soups. All purpose is best if you’re unsure. The meat in the beef wellington was tender but the soggy pieces of mushroom that were meant to represent the duxelles were depressing and was a disservice to the dish itself. Other than that the servers are lovely. The cocktail was nice but for the prices they are charging and the atmosphere they’re trying to give off, some very basic cooking skills are...
