York Tap, situated conveniently next to the train station in York, England, presents an appealing façade that captures the attention of passers-by and travellers alike. The exterior of the pub exudes a certain charm, inviting guests to step inside and explore its offerings.
Upon entering, one can't help but notice the hints of the pub's former grandeur. The interior, though bearing signs of a bygone era of elegance, still retains an atmosphere that is both intriguing and welcoming. This blend of the old and the new makes the York Tap an interesting place to visit, especially for those waiting for a train or looking to unwind briefly.
During a recent visit, the ambiance was pleasant enough, with a setting that promises a nice experience. The staff, while not outstanding, were adequate in their service, maintaining a level of professionalism expected in such an establishment.
However, the experience was marred by a couple of significant drawbacks. Firstly, the beer quality was underwhelming. The beer served was notably flat, lacking the vibrancy and liveliness one would anticipate in a pub renowned for its selection of drinks. This was disappointing, especially for those looking forward to enjoying a refreshing beverage.
Moreover, the state of the toilets left much to be desired. Cleanliness, especially in public facilities, is a critical aspect of the overall experience in any establishment. In this case, the toilets were not kept clean, detracting further from the overall appeal of the York Tap.
In conclusion, while the York Tap boasts an attractive exterior and a location convenient for travellers, the lacklustre beer and poorly maintained facilities significantly diminish its charm. The experience, as a whole, was underwhelming, leading to a decision to probably not return in the future. For a pub that holds such potential due to its location and historic ambiance, it's unfortunate that the finer details of customer experience...
Read moreOne of my all time favourite pubs. We visit here everytime we visit York. Its fantastic!
The building is great. It's in the train station and you can sit in the back (still covered) and watch the trains go by. Great for entertaining the kids. Alternatively you can sit in the building, which still has 50s waiting room vibes. It can be busy here and you'll still have plenty of space.
There is a great looking circular bar in the centre of the room that serves fantastic beer. I get so disappointed when pubs serving 'craft' beer, have Neck Oil and little else. Not here. Here you can get a delicious world beer or a well looked after cask and you'll be forced to make some serious choices before you leave. My wife always has a Rioja which is also a very nice drop.
I wish all pubs were this good. Well...
Read morebusy which is to be expected considering its next to a trainstation ( not a problem) however when we visited beginning of December it stunk of urine ( we were sat at least 3 metres from the toilets) tables were uncleared and unwiped for a considerable amount of time ( approx 45 mins)...I understand that its a busy time of year but the place fell below par in terms of basic hygiene in comparison to similar venues I have visited within York and in other cities at this time of year. I didn't go to the bar as another member of our group did on my behalf so not able to comment on face to face customer service. I'd probably avoid visiting again because of the smell and...
