Firstly I will start with the good points, the hotel is beautiful and the views are lovely, the atmosphere is very relaxed and laid back. The service was a bit hit and miss but for the most part it was acceptable, the food itself was disappointing especially after reading so many good reviews on here, the cheese and onion tartlet was really good but the sandwiches were pretty average and traditional, the ham and mustard offering had far too much butter which spoiled it for me and I left my cream cheese and cucumber and egg mayonnaise. The scone was huge but quite hard and dense and was more like a fat rascal than a scone, the mint mousse on top of the brownie wasn’t nice at all and tasted very synthetic, the macaron was ok as was the cheesecake and orange chocolate delice but nothing was above average sadly. The latte was nice and it was great that the drinks were unlimited but the breakfast tea was so weak I checked to make sure there was a teabag in it. Im so disappointed as I really wanted to love the afternoon tea here as it’s a beautiful building with lovely views but sadly the food didn’t live up to...

The menu has slightly reduced too. But it was lovely however and it tasted fresh! The scones came straight out...
Read moreStopped in for a drink while waiting for train, have visited before as well. The room is beautiful and comfortable, and both times I've stopped in without a reservation with no problems. The service is good, from pleasant staff. The tea was fine, gin and tonic fine, the hot chocolate was the worst hot chocolate I've had that didn't come from a vending machine in the 90s. Seemed to have been made up with powder and water, my friend didn't even finish hers. Priced over the cost of a latte, and really really not worth it, especially in York where you can find outstanding hot chocolate in...
