I visited the Guildford store on 29th October around 11/11:30am and ordered a few items including a full-fat babyccino for my teenage daughter. After a sip she asked me to taste the milk as it tasted strange. I tried and found that the milk tasted sour with a distinct off smell and so went back to the counter to ask for a replacement. Unfortunately the replacement tasted the same. I went back again to tell the staff all 3 of which started to look upset. I asked if they have used the milk from the same carton and they said yes (!) Showing me that the expiry date printed on the carton was the1st Nov.
To avoid the same milk being used again I asked for the babyccino to be replaced by a semi-skimmed version and waited by the counter. The staff now looked very upset and the barrista kept avoided making my order until one of his colleagues gave him several nudges. After about 10 mins he placed an espresso cup sized babyccino in front of me and and said ' here's your babychino' with a smirk.
I protested that this wasn't the correct size as the previous two were cappuccino cup-sized but he said 'no, no, that's it'. I said no that wasn't the correct size. His colleagues then said the 30ml cup was the correct size whereas the ones before were wrong. When I asked how they managed to give me the wrong-sized cup twice she went quiet. As the cup size for this is not specified in the menu perhaps Blacksheep Coffee could confirm here whether you charge £1.99 for a 30ml cup of milk.
I then asked for a refund as I was unhappy with being serve milk that has gone sour twice followed by a miniscule replacement with a smirk the third time. The barrister point blank refused my refund. I asked if he has tasted the milk and he said no and asked me back if I had !?! I was confused by his logic and so we had a few rounds of these questions repeated back and forth.
He maintained that the expiry date printed was the 1st Nov. I explained that milk could go off regardless and he looked skeptical.
If they didn't check the milk after my first alerting them and continued to use the off milk to serve not just me but other customers as well I would have thought that by the second time, someone would think perhaps they should check, particularly as babyccinos are often drank by very young children. Somehow, they (especially the barrista) seemed to think it made more sense for it to be my fault . I asked him why I would bother coming up to the counter twice when I really would prefer to enjoy breakfast with my daughter, to this, he shrugged and said that I could send in a complaint if I want to and told me to have a lovely day.
My daughter has managed to ignore the whole exchange and polished off her waffle so presumably it tasted good. I have lost my appetite and trust in their food safety standard by this point so I didn't eat/ drink anything.
I have sent in my complaints to Blacksheep Coffee. A quick research told me that their response could be patchy and that I should also voice this to your branch directly. So I'm hoping this would be the best way to get to...

Read moreFirst time I came to Black Sheep, amazing quick service and had a lovely iced frappe.
Came back a few months later and completely changed. Maybe new staff that have not had adequate training.
All started with a 15 minute wait for 2 x frappes and a panini with no one in front of me waiting for their drinks. What looked like the manager standing on his phone and doing nothing whilst I am waiting.
Furthermore, when I asked him if he was going to start making my drinks as I have been standing there for 10 minutes already. He then finally started to make my drinks after being promoted and 1 of them was incorrect and just squirted syrup down the straw, with a big sugar hit after the first sip of trying to correct the drink.
Panini: Food hygiene went straight out the window, continued to handle my food without washing his hands after using his phone to put into the oven.
He then finally got my panini out of the oven after keeping it in there for far too long and served it on a dirty plate and burnt but before handling it with his bare hands and picked his nose and touching his hair without washing his hands prior to getting out the oven and cutting it.
It’s a real shame because the service previously was extremely quick and tasted good. This time less to be desired. Staff need a lot more training and food hygiene needs to...
