The first red flag came when we phoned to book a table. They told us they were fully booked until half 8, which doesnât initially seem too bad. The second red flag was when we arrived; it was basically some tables set up in a living room. When we turned up at half 8, we were asked to wait and it quickly became apparent that we were waiting for one of the parties to leave. They ended up pulling some tables together and eventually found an extra chair. The service was very poor. After waiting 10 minutes or so we asked if we could order drinks, to which the waitress eventually got a drinks menu. After another wait, we asked her if we could order some - she got the order wrong and told us the Disaronno was display only(?). The food wasnât fresh and looked more like leftovers from yesterdayâs service. Things were congealing, had gone cold, or had run out completely. Upon request they did bring out some more duck, only enough for one person. The third red flag was seeing two of the three other parties complaining about separate things. At this point we were fed up and dissatisfied. We asked for the bill. We were never given the bill but instead just told a figure to pay, roughly ÂŁ180 from memory but this figure also changed a couple of times. They donât accept card, only cash or bank transfer. While half of the party left, I handed them ÂŁ100 cash and explained why that is the amount we would pay - cold food, half empty buffet, poor service etc. This quickly escalated and they locked the exit. When she threatened to phone the police, we told her to go ahead and phoned them ourselves. Despite being advised by the police that they cannot hold us hostage, she continued to argue with them and eventually threw herself to the floor and claimed I had hit her - for absolute clarity, the only person who put hands on anyone was one of their employees on me. After 10 minutes of them refusing to let us out, rolling around on the floor kicking and screaming like a toddler, she reluctantly unlocked the door. She was very quick to pocket the money and refused to give it back. So, please donât go here unless you enjoy room temperature, congealed leftovers which you eat without a drink, before being ripped off or...
Read moreAvoid avoid avoid! The worst takeaway experience I've ever had! We ordered by phone at 7:30pm Friday evening, went in to collect at 8pm as agreed. Firstly they tried to overcharge me, then honoured the price on the phone. I then waited and waited for a total of 35 minutes in the restaurant for our food. That made over an hour of waiting for the food. During this time all I could hear was constant shouting in the kitchen in Chinese (it didn't sound like a nice place to work). More and more people came in to collect orders that weren't ready (there were actually five people and an Uber driver waiting for their orders after me!). I then got the food home to find that several dishes were missing and that there was food we hadn't ordered. By this point we were past starving so ate the food we were given. The food was very average, the chicken was dry and overcooked and some of it was extremely greasy. I presume part of the food we were given might have been someone else's order. I then rang to complain about our experience. Not once did I get a sorry or apology on the phone. I was actually made to repeat my complaints no less than three times, interrupted by outbursts of Chinese shouting obviously directed at whoever was standing next to the person who had taken my call. They were actually quite rude on the phone. I was eventually offered 10% off a future purchase, and if we had returned our food they said they would have given us the missing starters. Considering I'd explained that we had eaten the food because of the ridiculous wait, I don't really see how that would have been possible! I gave up in the end as quite frankly I'm never using Bamboo House ever again. This is not how customer service should work. I'm not the type of person to complain normally, but this was a truly...
Read moreBooked a table for 8.30, the earliest they had. When we turned up we had to wait as there wasnât a table for our party of 8, the waitress eventually just pushed tables together and we had to squeeze round a table meant for 6 people. We sat there for another 10 minutes and asked if we could order drinks, she didnât take our order for another 10 minutes, which she then somehow managed to get wrong. The food, what there was of it, looked like it had been sitting there a long time, it was congealed and cold and didnât look very appetising at all. We asked for more food and if they did bring some out there was only enough for 2 people. It seemed as though we were getting the leftovers from the previous two sittings. Two out of the other three parties in the restaurant were disputing their bills. We asked for the bill, which we werenât given, just told an amount and that they only took cash or bank transfer. Some of our party waited outside, we gave them just over half of the amount theyâd asked for explaining that we thought it was fair considering the service was so bad, the food was very poor and there wasnât a lot of it. They demanded we pay more and when we refused and explained again why we werenât going to pay, they locked us in and refused to let us out. They called the police, so we also called them to say they had locked the door and were refusing to let us out. The police made the call a high priority as we were being held against our will. The police kept telling her she could not keep us locked in, she continued to scream at them, then threw herself to the floor and told the police my son had hit her. He was nowhere near her. She also told them we had refused to pay anything. After a long time of being held against our will, she...
