Sat in here to do some work when waiting for a train in Huddersfield, and I was really shocked at the treatment from the owner. I’d been sat in for about 40 minutes doing work on my laptop (after buying a large drink) when he loudly told me I couldn’t work there all day (to which I didn’t have any intention too)- I was shocked as I’d been there less time than many of the other people around me who were there with friends- and I’d paid for a drink. There were folk around me with empty cups, who’d arrived before me who hadn’t been told to leave. I completely understand that people will often stay far to long when working in cafes, but that was defiantly not what happened here- I don’t know if the treatment was because I was young, because I was working, because I was wearing a sunflower lanyard (with a mask)- I really just didn’t understand why I was being treated as if I’d done something wrong, and I don’t think he would have spoken to a man in such a condescending manner. On top of this, the shop wasn’t even very busy, there were some tables filled but loads of free space so it’s not like he needed room for other customers.
Often I think students get a really bad rep for going to chains instead of smaller businesses, but I have never been asked to leave a coffee shop in my life, despite The fact I’m often using them to work in. After being asked to leave I was absolutly mortified, as many of the people in the cafe turned to stare at me as the owner spoke so loudly about how people sit in there to work all day, and ‘waste space’- I wonder if he spoke so loudly to actively attract attention to make me leave? Like I said, if I’d been there well over an hour snd had only ordered a small drink, I would almost get it, but there was just no need in this situation.
On top of all of this, no staff were wearing masks or adhering to social distancing, the menues weren’t single use or able to be wiped down snd were clearly being touched by lots of people without any clear attempt to prevent the spread of infection, so from that perspective it wasn’t great either.
I wouldn’t recommended this cafe to anyone wanting a nice space to drink coffee snd work- like I said I found this experience quite humiliating and will defiantly be going...
Read moreOnly passing by to get to the Golden Arches for a quick breakfast on Monday, but this small cafe caught my eye and so I popped in. The staff were all very friendly and a menu was concise enough for there to be a range of options without making a book as some places do. I ordered a full English with a hot chocolate. The full English is clearly no Wetherspoons, the food taste fresh and was presented in a sharp manner. This high level of presentation also presented itself in the simple but gorgeous hot chocolate. The cup presented with the handle to the left side with the logo napkin underneath facing perfectly towards me with a long handled teaspoon laid neatly beside. When I looked elsewhere when others received their drink the same applied. And for the atmosphere, classic songs from Aretha Franklin and James Brown and many more played, of which an era that I love. The food is fresh and of top quality. The staff are well mannered, well trained and have a smile with all they do. The music matches perfectly. What more could a customer ask. I will be visiting...
Read moreI'd not been here for a while, they had a selection of cakes but I couldn't make my mind up and asked the waitress if I could taste the bits of cake and frosting that was spare on the plate tjat the came was sat on. she said that they weren't allowed to. I said i wasnt asking for a slice of cake just the crumbs and the frosting to try to see if I liked, at nearly £4 a slice I wanted to make sure it was worth it. Another customer waiting also found it strange that I was refused and the customer butted in explaining to the waitress that i was only wanting to taste the spare bits, I was then allowed the crumbs to taste.. all the drama and im glad i tasted it becsuse i didnt like it.!! So i ordered a drink instead, A chai latte, pictured. It didn't taste of anything just hot milk, I took it back and asked for a tad more flavouring the waitress did so but...I'd lost my mojo with things and found and arguing the toss. It just wasn't nice. So I left it in the end, instead of forcing it. It was a total waste of a meet up with my friend. I'm genuinely...
