Very friendly and efficient staff. A simple but varied menu with much promise. The king prawn appetiser had potential to be delicious. Well presented, sadly the 4 prawns were over cooked and the fried bread croute on which they were sat was deep fried in old oil, making it greasy and dominating of the delicate prawns, my husbands black pudding and egg stack was executed well, shame the black pudding was so generic and shop bought/mass produced. As a main course I opted for the vegetable and bean chilli. This was more like a runny ratatouille than an authentic Mexican chilli and could do with being seasoned with cumin, coriander and cinnamon as well as being reduced down to naturally thicken and concentrate flavour. The beans dissapointingly accounted for only about a fith of the dish, a small amount of peppers and courgettes another fith and the rest tinned tomatoes. The rice was ok. Fried tortilla chips had been cooked in the same oil as the fried bread and so the hand cooked chips, making them appear to be overcooked but in reality were soggy with the distinct taste of old oil. The potential of the menu is huge but the quality and freshness of the ingredients along with the lack in pride or/and skill of the kitchen staff made for a dissapointing meal. Initially looked like an average priced restaurant but in reality with the lack in quality of the ingredients and cooking made for an over...

Took our parents here when they came to visit from down south. We have lived in Lancaster for a few years and had been before for drinks and loved the atmosphere. We ordered at the bar and paid, when the food arrived (after a short wait which I was impressed by) it was cold, the plate felt like it had come out of the fridge it was ice cold and the pie and vegetables were freezing. We asked the waitress (who was the only server in the entire pub doing everything) if she wouldn’t mind warming it up or just putting it all in the microwave to which she replied she couldn’t as the microwave was being used, but she took it and said she’d go try and warm it up.

5 minutes later she came back with the same plate of food and said “there you go” and walked away, by this point we also had no cutlery so asked if she didn’t mind getting us some so we could all eat. When we felt the veg and plate they were both still cold and it felt like the pie was the only thing that got warmed up but was still not piping hot. We were very confused. I was very disappointed with the quality of the food and it’s just standard practice in any restaurant that the food is served hot. If we hadn’t already paid beforehand I would have refused as the food wasn’t enjoyable. I won’t be...

WOW, what a gem of find in Lancaster. Four of us called in last night for drinks, take a look at the menu, we heard this is a lovely pub and the food experience is pretty awesome so needed to find out for ourselves. Outside was crowded, the restaurant was fully booked, inside was very busy too but we managed to find the last table to accommodate us all, be it a bit of a squeeze. Just our luck too, a table for 4 came available in the restaurant. Glad we changed our minds about starters, food was being served at tables around us and the portions were huge. Our husbands chose 10inch gammon, my friend ordered this fabulous pie with mushy peas, and I couldn't resist the black blue rump with Cajun and stilton. We weren't disappointed, this is an excellent place to eat. The food is exceptional, well presented and we were served efficiently by very friendly staff. Got to call again soon. Very well done Three Mariners-you've got it...

Arrived on a miserable and wet summer Wednesday night with a very soggy doggy after a walk around the castle area and was greeted by the staff member at the bar with a smile and genuine, warm welcome then promptly a bowl of water for Milo which was much appreciated! Service was lovely, gentle and friendly to a point as a sole female drinking I felt quite comfortable. The few drinkers in seemed like locals and were happy to chat briefly across the table. The pub is very cosy, clean and full of character. Initially I was only after a coffee which at 9pm I appreciated wasn't available so the young lady at the bar promptly gave me some suggestions on what I could have including her favourites. Excellent service! Will be back!

Mediocre at best. Beautiful building, looks great. The real ale was superb but the food was awful. Fish and chips, the fish was very wet and the batter very soggy and mushy on the bottom. Hot pot, couldn't tell what the meat was as it was cubes that had been overcooked way too much. It tasted mainly of black pepper and nothing else. The food all smacked of frozen meals and was with us within 15 minutes; not what I would expect of freshly cooked food. Stick to the beer cuz the food was not good. Maybe we just caught them on a bad night. The stars I've given are due to the excellence of the ale, if it wasn't for that it would be one star
