Today, I tried Bruschetta's new Baklava pancakes (pancakes with pistachio and honey). I cook quite a lot at home and so when eating out I try and go for things I couldn't make myself, or at least with ingredients I wouldn't normally use. Bruschetta's food always leaves me feeling inspired by their flavours and presentation, and today was no exception. I got three pancakes (it doesn't look like much on the plate but for me it was the most perfect portion size, nothing was left and I couldn't have eaten any more) and they came with two little pots, one of a pistachio drizzle made from pistachios and condensed milk, and one of their homemade cream. I was worried the pancakes might be a little sickly, but they were sweetened to perfection. Bruschetta get it right every single time! I also had a fresh mint tea and it paired perfectly. Their waiters are efficient, friendly, welcoming and many of their ingredients are locally sourced. On other occasions, I've also tried their juices (they often make recommendations of fruit combinations but you can also pick any three from the crates of fresh fruit at the till and they will press it into a glass for you) which are utterly refreshing, I've also had their Algerian crêpes as well as their apricot & mango pain perdu (french toast) and all are divine. Every family member and friend that comes to visit, I always take them to Bruschetta and they are left in as much awe as I am of their originality and creativity with food - so far I've taken 6 and the general consensus amongst us all is the same! I will be back to keep on ploughing through their menu soon and if I could give them more than 5...
Read moreNice atmosphere in the hustle and bustle of the Corn Exchange. Great cup of tea and lovely fresh scone.
However my experience was marred by a very bizarre experience. So I visited this cafe on a very hot day with no air con inside the Corn Exchange. I enjoyed my cup of tea and scone. But as a menopausal woman I needed some respite from the heat. I gently used the menu on the table to fan myself. A young lady from the cafe came over and took the menu from me, along with the other menus from the table!! Literally she just took them without real explanation other than there were only a finite number of menus!!!! Clearly she didn't want me to enjoy my afternoon tea in relative comfort. It was the most bizarre exchange and I doubt I'd go back there again after she made me feel humiliated (as well as boiling hot).
After leaving the cafe I noticed that other people were wafting themselves with menus but nobody reprimanded them. Why not???!! Felt I had been discriminated against for being a middle-aged and menopausal woman. One day that young lady will be old and have hot flushes herself and then I hope nobody let's her cool herself down with a...
Read morePopped in for a coffee whilst shopping with my daughters, staff initially were very solemn and didn’t look like they wanted to be working.. ordered a coffee with oat milk and a croissant for my youngest daughter, the croissant was stale and the coffee came with oat milk that curdled when poured into the coffee. I took it back up to the counter and asked if this was normal.. I was told it wasn’t and the milk was possibly off.. another male said it was because it was from the bottom of the carton. It wasn’t an issue and a fresh one was brought over, the male with an accent that could have been American explained it was because the milk hadn’t been shaken.. whilst hand gesturing shaken.. he repeated himself and gestured shaking again.. I light heartedly replied with “it hasn’t been what..” whilst re gesturing the hand movement.. (as again we weren’t actually bothered so wanted to make light of the situation) he again repeated himself.. I said it’s ok I was taking the mickey. He looked at me disgusted and said “very mature” as he walked off back to the counter the remainder of the staff then all stared over giving dirty looks for the duration...
