Good selection of ales and unusual lagers, my favourite being the Blue Moon. Also, large ranges of gin and other spirits.
A proper pub with several booths around the bar area and a selection of tables at the front and back of the property. Small but serviceable smoking/vaping area out back and I don't recall being revolted by the state of the lavs. Bonus!
Only one barman on at the start of the session and he started to look a little overwhelmed as footfall increased but the cavalry soon arrived and order was swiftly restored.
Bar snacks -sausage rolls and the like- available but I can't comment on their quality as I only ventured as far as a bowl of hot nuts, which were as advertised. Nutty and hot.
The Angel's clientele are friendly and the atmosphere convivial. Piped music at a background level - no "banging toons" for the kids here and no pool table.
Dogs are welcome and seemed a popular accessory with fellow patrons, a couple of lively spaniels being a highlight.
My favourite pub in Lichfield by far.
The only blot in their copybook being the stocking of Coors Light.

Read moreThe Angel Inn is a solid traditional pub in Lichfield city centre, affiliated with Joule's Brewing. The company's beers are advertised in many different forms all over the pub and; unsurprisingly, almost all of the beers on tap are from that same brewer (Joule's Pale Ale, Slumbering Monk, Pre Blonde, etc). The décor is very familiar (all dark wood, intentionally kept rustic). The medium-sized pub is divided into several different niches, and there's a small smoking/vaping area to the side. It's very appealing if you dig this traditional style. The barman on my visit was friendly enough, the beer I chose (Ludlow's The Boiling Well) was fresh and tasty. Nothing truly special about The Angel Inn, but it's certainly a fine place to hang out for a couple of pints if you want to avoid more modern brew pubs like the nearby...
