Decided to pop into this ‘off the beaten track’ pub with my wife on a visit to historic Lincoln at lunchtime between Christmas and New Year. The pub wasn’t busy and I asked the rather reserved barman for a pint of Guinness. He said they’d run out it so slightly disappointed but accepting it, I had a pint of John Smiths instead and we sat down.

About ten minutes later, a group of what I presume were more frequent customers, as they appeared to be on first name terms with the barman, came in the pub and when one asked for a Guinness, I watched in amazement as the barman quite happily poured him one out. I couldn’t quite believe it!

Now it may be the case that miraculously a delivery of Guinness was made in that ten minutes but I saw no evidence of this. We soon left however and I stared at the pint of Guinness and then the barman as we left, just to see if he could sense my annoyance. I don’t think he did. I thought about asking him but I couldn’t be bothered. I just put it down to it being a local’s local and not one for...

Don't usually write long reviews, but this pub blew me away today:

Driving back from visiting family in Saltfleetby and it being a bank-holiday Monday, we were urgently seeking nourishment and refreshment from any pub between there and Nottingham. As it goes, many places were either fully booked or weren't serving food and we were drastically running out of options.

Luckily we then came across The Morning Star ( A pub we'd been to during a Lincoln pub crawl a year or two ago, which I was struggling to remember 🍺) seats were available and food wasn't being served but you could receive deliveries from Deliveroo, so we took it.

We were seated under a big ol white tent which was fun and the beer garden was beautiful! The delicious food just added to this already excellent experience. The Ladies who served us were lovely, cheerful and confident to a standard I haven't seen in most pubs that I've recently visited.

Walking back to the car, we were already planning our next...

Visited 3 weeks ago on a fairly quite Saturday afternoon. I only frequent this establishment about 4/5 times a year and so surprised if not shocked at poor service and cost of drinks since my last visit. A young lad who was obviously just learning the trade was certainly getting some earache from the young barmaid. She herself decided to move empty glasses from the bar to the shelf behind despite the queue. Not sure that moving glasses would be my priority in a bar.

When served and the bill for two drinks came to nearly ÂŁ20 !!! I asked for the bill to be given a receipt for near ÂŁ20. I had to press for the itemised reciept where I found that a very small mixer was ÂŁ2.80 !!!

Definitely the most expensive bar in Lincoln at the moment and yes not one I'm prepared to visit...

Another surprise find at the back side of the cathedral. The real ale, lager and gin selection was very varied. We were greeted and served by very friendly staff. The outside area was spacious, well set out with both undercover and sunny areas and the flowers/planting gave a Mediterranean feel. Although they weren't serving food whilst we were there you could bring/order your own to eat. We will definately return when next in Lincoln and would not hesitate to recommend it (wish we lived nearer it would be our local)!

Just what the doctor ordered at 1130 on a cold March Saturday after an hours worth of ecclesiastical musings at the nearby cathedral. A friendly welcome, lovely pint & crisps (in date too, don't always take for granted 😆). Comfortable seating and just the right level of background noise to enable a private conversation to be had without whispering. I love boozers like this and long may this one prosper ❤
